I don’t think DH would like that one, but we’d both appreciate a backpack for Christmas if we particularly wanted/needed one. DH got me an amazing LoungeFly backpack earlier this year and it quite possibly the best gift I’ve ever received.

I bought OH a (Same make as Swiss Army knives, forget name) backpack from TK Max’s a couple of years back. It’s bigger than that and has a few pockets, which he likes. It’s also comfy to wear
My main motivation for buying it was to stop myself being turned into a pack horse for every family outing Grin It’s great for travel and he uses it on the rare occasion he needs to go to the office nowadays. It’s taken a bit of a battering, but still looks good as new

I noticed they still had them in TKMaxx last week, in case anyone wanted to look out for one

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/12/2021 06:52

@WorriedMillie - Victorinox?

JollyAndBright · 05/12/2021 07:02

I asked DP and he said “it’s a bit to cuboid for me but i looks like a good backpack otherwise”

As for a backpack as a gift “if it was something I needed I’d be happy with a good quality bag as a gift, which that one looks like”

(What he doesn’t seem to remember is I have the nordace Siena and I adore it, I’ve had it for three years now and it still looks immaculate, they are very good quality.)

Sleepyteach · 05/12/2021 07:36

I spent many days looking for the perfect backpack last Christmas for DH. The one I chose was returned and he ended up buying a samsonite one which is really nice and so comfy. I also have a cabin zero one which is really good.

lborgia · 05/12/2021 07:49

If he is using it for food shopping, should you consider the extra shoulder straps to take the weight off?

That would make it extra thoughtful.

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 05/12/2021 10:41

My husband has an Ortlieb. www.ortlieb.com/uk_en/products/backpacks/daypacks. He loves it. It's waterproof and he also carries home wine and other necessities in it. He's a cyclist.

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 05/12/2021 10:42

...it's the commuter daypack he has.

goose1964 · 05/12/2021 11:45

He'd like this but be a bit bemused by all the tech stuff

HighlandPony · 05/12/2021 11:47

No. But my mans a rugged outdoorsman who uses his to climb mountains and camp in the woods.

onlychildhamster · 05/12/2021 15:05

Thanks all. I got my DH this victoronox backpack!

@HighlandPony lol my DH and I were floored from his 58 year old mum dragging us for a 4.5 mile walk from Kew Gardens to Caffe Nero Richmond in the freezing cold. We were exhausted by the level of physical activity required by a woman nearing her 60s! I think mountain climbing is a bit ambitious lol

My husband had our son do his first Corbett age three, his first Munro age five and they did the tourist route on Ben Nevis this last summer age 7. I’m pregnant so that’s my get out clause for the next two years Grin they hubby has the osprey stratos and eldest boy has a second hand karrimor thing that’s nearly the size of him when loaded with sleeping bags and roll mat. We’re all pretty outdoorsy though.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/12/2021 17:35

All rucksacks are not equal though. I climb mountains, ride a mountain bike (on mountains), have backpacked in the last and carry a laptop to work. My rucksacks for each are different, with different features.

HighlandPony · 05/12/2021 17:40

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads my husband wouldn’t know what to do with a laptop let alone a bag for it Wink he’s gone a bit snobby of late. Only using osprey and alt berg or hannwag brands for his Munro gear.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/12/2021 17:48

@HighlandPony, I know all about gear snobbery!

pinkksugarmouse · 05/12/2021 17:57

I think whether it’s a good gift or not depends on the individual and their interests than what sex they are. This could be a great gift for a man or a woman if it’s their sort of thing.
I wouldn’t get this for DH because it’s not the right gift for him but you are the best person to decide if it’s right for yours.
How about asking someone else who actually knows him? A friend or family member maybe? 🤔 🎄

Firstly at the longest possible route between Kew Gardens and Caffe Nero it's nowhere like 4.5 miles. At the most it's 2 miles. Secondly you sound rather surprised that a "nearly 60 year old" woman can walk that. That's a sad attitude.

onlychildhamster · 08/12/2021 11:38

@Skinnytailedsquirrel we did a really long route, on google maps it was 4.5 miles. we walked around kew gardens several times too (cos my MIL said this was the 'scenic route'.

Oh if I was nearly 60, I would not be able to walk that....
