Fun Christmas activities while isolating

So DS 9 has tested positive for covid. So far he feels fine, but since I can't take him out the house I can't get DD6 to school either so we are stuck at home for now. I feel so so sad for them. They are missing seeing Santa, Xmas jumper day at school, Xmas activities at school. We had family due to visit this weekend and we were visiting other family next weekend which we now can't do. They are both fed up and sad.

Any suggestions of activities we can do at home? We'll do some baking. Wish we had waited to put the decorations up now!

Thanks

Make Christmas cards and token gift for teachers.

Make a tree decoration.

Popcorn and some sweets, cosy up and watch Christmas film.

Any spare decorations to make a Garland?

Kirst26 · 03/12/2021 08:57

Christmas films! Seriously, all the movies!

Popcorn, blankets, cushions, building a fort to watch the films in etc etc. It will be like watching videos on the last day of school! Remember the teachers wheeling in the TV to watch them? Giving away my age now!

Kirst26 · 03/12/2021 08:58

Make Christmas biscuits for the tree or to eat while watching all the movies!

There is lots of printable Christmas colouring pictures etc that might be similar to things done at school they could do.

If you’ve got any paper plates you can make Christmas wreaths by cutting a hole in the centre and decorating the circle. Cut out hand shapes are good.

Cab you order or borrow, through your council's digital library, one of the Christmas chapter books? A boy called Christmas or Christmas pig or something and read it all together?

Write all your Christmas cards. Make salt dough decorations? Sorry it really sucks after so much disruption.

Haha, I do remember the tv on wheels at school!

Thank you for all the lovely suggestions. I might write them down and put in a jar like a lucky dip.

I hate the bloody elf on the shelf but I'm tempted to get one to make them smile for the next 10 days

Have you asked the DC's what they might like to do? They'll probably have even better ideas than us! :)

DuneFan · 03/12/2021 09:54

Make a gingerbread house (this is on my list but unsure how hard it will be!)

Make a puppet theatre and characters out of a cardboard box and do your own nativity play. You can have every character you fancy Inc third lobster . . .

ItsTheTreasure · 03/12/2021 10:04

@Kirst26 play on the playstation and watch YouTube which will probably happen while having McDonald's everyday for lunch Grin

My kids love designing Christmas jumpers. So basically just draw or print a blank jumper and sit and design them.

languagelover96 · 03/12/2021 10:14

That sucks but you can use it as a valid excuse to stay at home. You can order some child friendly books from your local library if you have a membership card or from Amazon too. Alternatively you can bake treats for Christmas, host a fun themed Christmas spelling lesson, have a Christmas art and craft workshop etc, the options are literally endless here.

Other activities include a Christmas panto, a Christmas movie and wine night, a Xmas singing contest and a poetry competition. You could even have a festive afternoon tea at home as well with scones and something to drink. Make a puppet in addition. You can even prepare a Christmas quiz on top of that.

Christmas cake contest.

@ItsTheTreasure can I come too?

Make them have Christmas videos on YT at least!

Kirst26 · 03/12/2021 10:42

Could the DC's make a present for grandparents etc?

tootiredtospeak · 03/12/2021 11:45

That's exactly what my 9yr old DS would want to do the 4yr old DD not so much she would craft forever though. I dont think there is much you can do apart from films books making things and eating especially with crappy weather. Good luck

My ds9 also has covid right now. Ive got piles of work to do before Christmas so I have on fact just left him on the xbox most of the day. Luckily 2 of his pals are also off so they're just chatting and playing all day.
Then in the evening we've been watching a film. I did have lots of grand ideas but they've come to nothing.
I dont have a 6 yr old at home too though, that makes it harder.

He gets out on Wednesday, fingers crossed

Making gingerbread houses or a Cadbury choc one. Sorry about that. We had kids of isolating last year including up to Boxing day. Rubbish!
