Fantastic family game for small children

Hi!

I have small kids almost 4 and 5 (and a baby) and I'm looking for a fantastic family game. Board game, actions, whatever, super flexible with the type.

Let me be very honest: I am struggling with depression and would like something to help me have some nice fun time with the kids. I have been reading about new games that are really something fun and great and I wanted to try something new.

Ideally not something with lots of small pieces (because of the 1yo, she'll grab stuff....) but I would still like to hear about it if you know something really good.

I was going to get "frozen unicorns" but the reviews weren't good.....

Thank you!!!

I often visit apkcima.com/ to download games, you can try, there are many games and applications there. Hope you will find the right game to play with your family

Thank you for what you bring to us. Your article is really helpful. Currently, GBA ROMs have been updated with the hottest games today and we are constantly updating new versions.

The company that makes dinosaur escape is called peaceable kingdom, they have a few nice cooperative games. Our favorite is hoot owl hoot.

'Trash pandas' and 'get that pirate booty' are also really fun.

Also 'sorry!'

DH had a nostalgia trip and got mousetrap. Bad idea! It takes forever to set up, another forever to get it actually working, and the actual game is the most boring thing ever invented so you play it maybe twice then it takes forever to put away.

Also the special weighted silver ball rolls away behind a piece of furniture and you have to spend ages hunting for the wretched thing.

We have a three little pigs board game by GALT which my 3 year old is just slightly too young to grasp (so I would think would be good for a 4 and a 5 year old), it’s fun! I wouldn’t say fantastic fun but fun nonetheless!
I hope you’re being supported with your depression and I’m sorry you’re struggling right now💐

I used to babysit. I had a weighted dice, that was for the child(ren) hugely useful for things like snakes and ladders.

If you have a garden / path then things like egg and spoon races can be fun - hard boil the eggs first.

There is a party game that is probably more suitable for 8 to 10 year olds but your eldest will be there in no time.

You need a bar of chocolate, unwrapped and on a plate.

Some dressing up clothes, a dressing gown, hat and gloves work well.

A knife and fork.

A dice.

Everyone takes turns to throw the dice, if they roll a 6 then they have to put all the dressing up clothes on and cut a piece of chocolate to eat but they have to do that with a knife and fork.

The dice continues to be thrown and if someone else gets a six then the person getting the chocolate has to stop and hand the clothes to the next one. As you get older children you can have 2 dice and make it a double.

You can change it about so chopsticks and M and Ms or Maltesers. Or you could use melon or grapes.

For small children you might just have a hat they have to wear and maybe not have the dice continually rolled.

Bear pit

You are the bear and you have your own territory, a rug works really well. you are not allowed to move from the rug.

You put a prize on the rug and they have to try to get it.

How hard you swipe at them and growl is up to you. You can also go to sleep and either wake up when they tip toe past or stay asleep and let them get the prize.

My kids (3 and 5) love "Fill Your Pants", I think it came from The Works, it's a game with two pairs of giant comedy Y-fronts and a set of cards with simple instructions like "Find two things the shape of a circle" or "beginning with P", then they race to find them and stick them in the pants, that they're wearing. They fall about laughing and it turns the house upside down but it's great fun and the 5 year old likes to read the cards herself now.

They also love "mystery snacks" where I get them to shut their eyes and give them tiny bits of food, a cheerio or a raisin or a bit of cracker, they have to describe its taste and texture and guess what it is, got that idea from a science teacher!

When my DD was 5 ish we loved Monopoly, Bugs in the Kitchen, Labyrinth, UNO. I don't enjoy Monopoly as I can't be as cut throat as the rules want, and she still hates it if she doesn't win!

NannyR · 06/07/2022 10:19

I find that kids really love playing uno - as long as they can recognise numbers and colours they can play the normal version rather than the junior one.
At work we have a wooden games compendium with snakes and ladders, ludo, drafts etc which is played with a lot.
They also love the Rush Hour logic puzzle game, it comes in a junior version and an older kids version. It's more of a single player game but they enjoy competing against each other.

@Madcats

I always wanted Kerplunk growing up and mousetrap!

How about Twister? I suppose it might end in tears. If so, the ancient game of "dead fish" always seems to be a useful way to calm things down (kids have to lay on the floor and try not to move as you tell terrible jokes to make them laugh or make daft noises).

I think my daughter was 4/5 when she started playing Jenga.

Twister is no good at those ages unless you want to find out what happens when a 15 stone man over stretches and collapses on top of a 4yo... 😂

I also desperately wanted Kerplunk and Mousetrap! We now have Kerplunk, and it is a PITA to reset between each game 😩 I still live in hope that Mousetrap is as good as I imagined!

Mousetrap has never once in history actually worked. You have to just nudge the cage to fall. Sorry to shatter your dreams.

Orchard games are great for little ones, very easy to understand but fun enough to engage everyone.

If you have any consoles, games like Mario Party are such good fun! And there's of course no setting up or cleaning up :)

I got my little girl Frozen Charades last year which caused great excitement also!
