What age to stop elf on the shelf?

Wish I never started it but I did.

For those of you that also didn't realise what you were getting yourself into, what age did you or do you think you will stop?

DD is 11 and final year of primary. Do I not bring the elf back this year or do something this year then stop when I'm secondary?

Did anyone do anything nice for the final year or have any ideas to make it a really easy year of having the elf on the shelf?

Oh god, I can't stand that bloody elf. My daughter however adores it. She's 8.
I've told her the elf is visiting for a week and then he's off to visit another child.
Just 1 week to get through Grin

And inflict the misery on another unfortunate?

OP, you've learned the hard way now that your should never start Christmas traditions you aren't prepared to continue for the next 21 years. You're now stuck with it until they fledge.

Right well dd is 11 and in P7 snd so excited about the elf returning 😭

All of her class have been talking about elves too so it doesn't seem to be something to be embarrassed about.

Last year of it though!!!!!!!!

SnekkinOnDown · 30/11/2021 16:17

My eldest daughter is 13 1/2 and last Christmas was our last elf on the shelf. She just seemed to lose interest desire the last year or two being a bit more grown up in terms of what they did. This year I did Chucky on the chair instead and played little pranks in the run up to Halloween. The best one was the 5ft tall cut out of Pennywise on the back of the toilet door.

gonnabeok · 30/11/2021 16:17

Last one was in year 6 primary, dd is now year 7 so no more elf. Yipeeeeeeeeeee!

Why not use this thread to share ideas? My dil does this, and the elf is returning, despite the fact that only dgs still (sort of) believes

I will be sharing the elf in quarantine picGrin

Ours just moves round the house now. I used to do exciting things and leave notes with it, but now none of them believe it's just a warm and fuzzy harbinger of Christmas.

I know of an actual incident of Elf-on-a-Shelf-based office drama. A colleague originally from the USA had introduced it as a seasonal bit of fun and it went round various departments, until the morning people turned up to find our diminutive friend posed in the most degrading way imaginable with several of Santa's reindeer involved.

It was traced back to the Legal team (Shock!) and a company-wide email went out. The elf was never seen again. Brilliant Very wrong. Wink

Just before the 20 week scan...

We're well over 10 years with the fucking elf and I wish I'd never started it. It's the one thing the DC won't grow out of. They're well into their teens. It's just never going to stop is it. They're never going to stop asking are they.

Silversun83 · 30/11/2021 19:12

Some just keep the elf in the same place and give them a letter or a word and come Christmas Eve you get a message!

DC are 5 and 3 and thankfully don't know what one is.. Though DC1 is in year 1 so I'm sure there will be talk in her class tomorrow..

Gruffalogrinch · 30/11/2021 19:35

Almost 14 year old DD is still expecting the fecking elf this year. I am not amused!

ChildrenGrowingUpTooFast · 30/11/2021 22:43

DD is 10 and she helps set up the elf for her sister. I’m sure your 11yo knows it’s you moving it.
