Hi

I am really struggling on a certain gift for an elderly lady relative, in their 80's. I already have an afternoon tea hamper but I need something extra to go with it.

They have no real hobbies or interests. Pretty much housebound due to ill health.

Already has loads of ornaments, photo frames, blankets, slippers etc.

Does she like puzzles? My mum has a nice glass tabletop sudoku board, a nice jigsaw puzzle (you can get one made from a family photo), a lap tray/table for having things in easy reach.

Hyacinth or other bulb kit which comes with a vase or ceramic pot

Amaryllis. It's been a real hit with the senior members of our family whenever we've given one to them.

I have bought a nice foot stall for my 80 something housebound mum.

I'd say something to do; something to make her more comfortable; something to eat (which you have covered).

Puzzle books are good for keeping her mind active. I have an elderly relative who loves word searches because they keep her occupied but don't take too much effort. She also likes adult colouring books but I know not everyone does. She no longer has the patience for Sudoku or cross words.

A successful gift was a broad scarf! which she keeps by her chair and puts over her shoulders if she's a bit chilly, not as cumbersome as a blanket.

Do you have kids they are fond of? I always found my FIL loved a personalised calendar with photos of the kids in it.

Nice notebook for writing a shopping list / other things to remember. Could also add a nice pen

Bottle of favourite tipple

Little bucket of bulbs like hyacinths that they tend to sell at the supermarkets or garden centres

Other house plant

I imagine at that age you tend to want stuff that doesn't linger around forever
