What should I buy 1.5 yo twins

So stuck as to what to get and want to make it a surprise. The present is for twin boys budget around £100 for both. Either and individual or joint present.

Last time I saw them I noticed a lot of wooden toys and not so many plastic ones so would probably look for more traditional toys.

The wooden rainbow is very popular just now, I forget what brand it is, though, forgive me. And Lanka kade animals.

foxgoosefinch · 25/11/2021 21:47

Big wooden train set - John Lewis do a great one which is compatible with Brio and others too.

Big Duplo sets
Outdoor playhouse
Play kitchen, shop or theatre (look at GLTC and John Lewis)
Balance bikes, toddlebikes or similar

foxgoosefinch · 25/11/2021 21:48

The wooden rainbow is by Grimm.

BluebellsGreenbells · 25/11/2021 21:56

Premium bonds - save for their future.

whereareyousellotape · 25/11/2021 21:58

Yoto or tonie box?

HeddaGarbled · 25/11/2021 22:04

A set of stacking cups. Plastic is best so they can use in the bath as well. The sort where some of the cups have holes are good for the bath. Never mind the £100 - this has been the most popular and long-use gift for several family youngsters.

If they already have some, I’d buy books.

twinklepear · 25/11/2021 22:06

Some interesting ideas, never heard of a yoto off to look that up.
@foxgoosefinch those all say age 3+, is it acceptable to break the rules? They are pfb...

@BluebellsGreenbells I selfishly want to buy something tangible so I can watch them play with it take photos and lay claim to this wonderful toy until next year Grin

The classical rainbow is from Grimm's. www.grimms.eu/en/products/by-age/toddlers-1-3/?p=1
My DD enjoyed puzzles: a simple one with circle, triangle, rectangle or one with animals (e.g. a peg puzzle with larger pegs or one with chunky animals, we had one from Janod, chunky pieces can also be used as animal figures. Choose the type of puzzle depending on what stage they are at!).
Also look at Grapat. Combi of rings, coins, small figures and cups, it was a seasonal set. Lots of play options. www.babipur.co.uk/grapat-nins-of-the-autumn.html

Melissa and Doug ice cream parlor, or pizza oven or sandwich counter. You could probably get all 3 for your budget but might be overkill! They're wooden toys, lots of play value and will last years.

WhatonEarth1 · 26/11/2021 05:20

The balance bugs on this site are good beehivetoyfactory.co.uk/product-category/ride-ons/

BEE08 · 26/11/2021 07:08

I use a great site called Babame, who have some lovely wooden toys for different budgets and even do some toy bundles.

ElephantOfRisk · 26/11/2021 08:26

A seesaw?

pompomsgalore · 26/11/2021 08:55

Tuff tray and stand if the parents have the room and will to use it. See Pinterest.

Grimms rainbow, semi circles and rainbow people are big winners in our house.

JustJoinedRightNow · 26/11/2021 09:23

I second a really good wooden train set. It will get used for years and years!

twinklepear · 26/11/2021 11:14

Thanks. Train set sounds fun. Looking at them, should I buy a table to put the train set on as well? Or is that not necessary. I am not up to date on toys clearly!

You can just put the track on the floor or on a coffee table, depending on size of said coffee table. We’ve always just put ours on the floor. DC1 got one just before he was 3 and played with it a lot until maybe the last few months. Definitely a toy with longevity. The track is fine but I’d supervise with engines.

My DC is a few months older and we’re getting him the Aldi wooden kitchen (which they have loads of in store at the moment) and some accessories. The kitchen is £35 and looks like great value for what it is. Aldi generally have some really lovely wooden toys at the moment for very reasonable prices.

We also have a small Grimms rainbow, which gets more use than I anticipated (I just think they’re so nice to look at Blush).

Thingybob · 26/11/2021 11:27

I'd say no to the train table as they just get in the way and limits play possibilities

Caspianberg · 26/11/2021 11:29

I would get a pikler triangle as join gift if they have space

Thingybob · 26/11/2021 11:31

Another idea for you if they haven't already got one is The Little Dutch workshop. It's a really good size, is beautifully made and has nothing that is hazardous to those under 3.

pompomsgalore · 26/11/2021 11:38

I second a good wooden kitchen and the IKEA toy metal pans and utensils. Kids love those for years.

Train tables are nice as it raises them up and kids do like staring up to play. But I have to say out of three kids none have bothered with the wooden train set at all so I'd hate a big table getting in the way.

NameChange30 · 26/11/2021 19:53

DC2 is 14 months old so a similar age to the twins.

Firstly how much space does the family have for big toys? Will you be running it past the parents? I really struggle for space with all the toys we have and if anyone was planning to get something big I'd appreciate them checking first.

I was going to suggest a Pikler triangle (Sawdust & Rainbows Compact Wee'Un is great) as they have excellent longevity and most can be folded up to store. But could be over budget depending which one you buy.

Other good gifts are:
Scramblebug (better than a scuttlebug IMO)
Toddlebike
Small rocking horse
Play kitchen
Duplo train set (I think this is better than a wooden train set for younger ones)
