No. Unfortunately the charity shops round here rarely have such gems.

I brought myself/my mum a present in a force charity shop last week. Found a lovely cragghopper coat with removable fleece only £10 I was shook! It’s a size 12 so me as a size 10 and her as a size 12-14 can both fit in it Grin I also keep picking up the BBC/David Attenborough Our Planet, our Ocean etc. books everytime I see one I don’t have (although that one is less a Christmas present and me just treating myself lol).

An usborne book and puzzle set, still sealed and marked at £10, for £3

A set of my little pony TY soft toys with the tags on for £1.50 each - hair was a bit fluffy but sorted out with a damp comb easily.

"See Inside Inventions" lift the flap book. Clearly brand new as the flaps were all still flush - 50p!

DockOTheBay · 24/11/2021 22:19

Oh and a super dry hoody for DH for £5

I love a charity shop bargain, have bought second hand for years for dds!

This year bargains have included,
Games, jewellery, crocheted soft toys, beautiful dress with matching headband, light up mirror all FREE on olio.
Jurassic world mossasaurus cuddly toy 50p in the tip shop (very happy as dd pointed it out in the smyths catalogue but wasn't spending £16 on it!).
Loads of books 20p each in the charity shop.
Boppi the llama and rubix cube both requested by dd £5 for both from Facebook marketplace.
Selection of funko figures and pusheen plushies from Facebook selling groups. Much cheaper than their usual as got bundles of each!

As dds have got older ive needed to buy more new as what they want isn't easily found second hand. When they were younger £100 would stretch sooooo far. Now I spend more but don't get anywhere near as much for the money!

We used to get loads of charity shop bargains, especially toys. Once I got a huge box of real Lego for about £20. It had several (almost complete but fully playable) sets plus extras in and would have been worth quite a bit if sold by weight. I put it away for Christmas for the DC to share. It has kept us going for years & is still played with almost daily. Several years ago, during Christmas week, I randomly nipped into a charity shop I don't normally visit & found a brand new discontinued Disney wig to go with the outfit I'd already bought for DD. Cost almost nothing & she was made up with it.

Bargains are harder to come by these days though as the prices in our favourite shop have been creeping up. Always worth a look though!

Yes! Loads of times! X

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 25/11/2021 07:38

I bought BIL a pure cashmere scarf with labels still on for £3. It is currently in my 'chazzer wool freezer which I put all such items in to ensure I don't introduce a moth infestation into my house thus destroying bargainousness somewhat.

toolazytothinkofausername · 25/11/2021 07:43

I bought The Man Who Died Twice from my local Cancer Research yesterday for £1 Grin (Currently on sale on Amazon for £9)

The charity shop in the next village is amazing - St Vincent de Paul

I have so far got
2 x box sets of books for my dd brand new no marks at all - £1.50 each 6/8 books per set
5 board games £1 each lightly used and I honestly will have more patience bits get lost after a few weeks at that price
2 x Ralph Lauren shirts for my son -£5 each barely worn
1 x Radley handbag £10 immaculate for my sis
1 x desigual backpack £3 for eldest daughter
1 x Zara wool coat like new £2.50 for eldest daughter

But the absolute stunner was a present for me lovely louboutin shoes for £100 - they had never been worn but there was a small nick in the heel

Christmasmcchristmasface · 25/11/2021 07:47

This is a little village in the bank of beyond so not sure who donates all the wonderful bits. They never have any crap you never see primark etc it’s always good quality bits it’s my fav place to shop

Kiitos · 25/11/2021 07:50

I found a perfect condition piece of jersey fabric for £3 (full price would have been around £24), which I have made into a sweatshirt for a family member.

Thecurliestwurly · 25/11/2021 07:53

I have got them for my son as a baby and toddler. Any complete board games or puzzles have been quite good as presents. There isn't a great in charity shops here though.

I have bought a couple of toys for my eldest from eBay which are at least half the price, although the first one was a camera (a bit dated, but sturdy enough for the job and I don't mind it getting broken as it was a tenner).

Also got a lovely velvet Oasis dress for 8 quid which looked almost new, so will wear that on Christmas day as I never actually go anywhere to show it off.

FoxInABox · 25/11/2021 07:56

@Christmasmcchristmasface I feel like I need the name of this village Grin brilliant bargains!

borntobequiet · 25/11/2021 08:02

I was fairly skint when my kids were little and some of their best Christmas and birthday presents were from charity shops. DD still fondly remembers the roller skates and the Big Yellow Teapot.

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 25/11/2021 08:27

Not this year for Christmas, I have done lots previously and throughout the year.

Previous Christmas bargain & general bargains I’ve got this year.
I’ve got my dd the “pink” computer she wanted £8, it was a vtec computer, last year she got a big metal make up case, also pink, £4. I filled it with makeup for her.
Nintendo DS x 2 £8 each
Peppa Pig bike for £4, retail was about £60
Brand new Play kitchen for £7.50. Not a solid wood one, but my dd dosnt care.
Brand new musical light up dressing table & chair, also £7.50

I visit the charity shops most weeks, I love a good charity shop bargain, I’ve always buy lots of toys and kids clothes from the charity shops, we don’t have much money as I’m a sahm and I hate wasting money. If I get things from the charity shop and they don’t get played with or worn I don’t feel it’s a waste of money and can still justify buying it, but if I paid full retail on a toy £30-40 and it wasn’t played with I’d feel that’s money that could have been better spent on food/bills and that I just wasted it.

Gusthemouse · 25/11/2021 09:09

I've planned ahead a little as the little one isnt here yet, but bought a leapfrog activity table for 3 pound, and lots of first books for 3 for a pound.

Mumdiva99 · 25/11/2021 09:14

We are currently doing a Christmas jigsaw - early but we are home with covid. £3.
My son has a new washbag filled with sample size bits....there were loads of the sort given for free on a flight or similar but the washbag looks good. It can be hung up to show you the contents.
My son is getting a box set of Xmen dvds - they look used but he will be OK.
I bought my son a new camping chair but gave it to him straight away rather than try to wrap it for Xmas.

ThereWeAreThen79 · 25/11/2021 09:21

A Nintendo Ds with 5 games and an illegal game card with literally 100s of games downloaded on it for £8.

languagelover96 · 25/11/2021 09:39

I have yet to go into any charity shops. I will have a look to see what I can find tomorrow on the shelves at my local charity shops.

goose1964 · 25/11/2021 13:54

I've bought DiL a Fossil bag, DH a cotton and cashmere jumper, and DD a black blouse. Bag £20, jumper £10 and blouse £5.
