Ohhh, I don't know about Buck Palace. Perhaps it's a London piece of magic, but generally speaking, it's deemed to be a white Christmas if snow falls on any local weather station.

It's a bookies game though, so if they've decreed it has to be Buck Palace, then Buck Palace it is! It's as good a place as any.

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 15/12/2007 19:32

Where does the word Pantomine come from?

RudolphtheredROSEreindeer · 15/12/2007 19:48

?it must be french?..the word mime, maybe the first ones were silent shows? and ..erm...panto bit im stuck on?

OP posts:
missorinoco · 15/12/2007 19:49

for pantaloons
(not stuck at all)

Desiderata · 15/12/2007 19:50

Ewww, I think the word Panto is Italian in origin, but I don't know where the 'mime' comes from.

Certainly, panto has been big in Italy for centuries, with Grimaldo the clown as the central figure.

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 15/12/2007 19:50

Its not French, its Greek actually!

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 15/12/2007 19:56

Stumped you, haven't I?

I'm told, that it means 'to act anything'.

Desiderata · 15/12/2007 20:10

Well, now I've googled. The word pantomime is Latin/Roman, therefore Italian (na na na).

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 15/12/2007 20:19

That's fine, that'll teach me to listen to my brother!

NappiesGaloriaInExcelsis · 15/12/2007 20:21

ive got a question: what is cristingle when its at home? have heard of it this year for first time ever... its a god thing isnt it? (answer; its a god thing will do btw)

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 15/12/2007 20:26

Oh lord, there's a question. Its a thing that you make to represent different things that God made I think. The orange is the light and then you stick all sorts of cocktail sticks and jellies and shiney sweets on them. There has to be a red ribbon on it somewhere too. Its something like that anyway!

I'll google for the proper answer!

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 15/12/2007 20:27

Oh come on! Do I get a round of applause? I didn't do too badly!
