Does anyone have a miserable Dp who won't join in with the rest of the family and wear a Christmas jumper? The children and I always love to wear our Christmas jumpers and Pj's but boring dp won't join in. Be lovely to get a photo of us all in our Christmas jumpers. can anyone sympathise. I know they are tacky but it's just a bit of fun at Xmas.

One of my favourite pubs has a sign in the window saying no Christmas jumpers Grin

@CatonMat

I'm with your husband on this. Don't "get" him anything to wear so he looks good in a photo. He isn't 3 years old.
So much this!

I’m on his side. The matching jumper family shots are so annoying. Look at us…obedient consumers that we are.

I know it’s mawkish of me but I think it adds to the miserable pressure of creating an image perfect Christmas for social media purposes. Not every family can afford a set of matching jumpers as well as everything else.

I wish all these extras that are being pedalled to us would just fuck off.

Oneforthemoneytwo · 23/11/2021 17:05

I am with your husband. I wouldn’t ever wear a Christmas jumper

pictish · 23/11/2021 17:06

Also…Christmas Jumper Day…when parents get to dash to Asda for a cheap piece of shit acrylic jumper so their kid can join in at school, whether they can afford it or not.
That can fuck off too.

I work in a school and yes I have a jumper for CJD…wasn’t my idea to introduce such a thing but I’m sure plenty could live without it.

I love almost all things Christmas but I just don’t get the matching jumpers/PJs thing. First, I don’t understand what’s fun about wearing matching clothes, and why anyone would care, but also when do you wear them? It’s always too hot inside for big thick jumpers. And the pjs thing is bizarre- DH would think I’d gone mad if I asked him to change into his jammies at tea time on Xmas eve to “snuggle up”. Or worse, to take a photo!

YeOldePot · 23/11/2021 17:48

When did they become a thing here? Last 10 years? Never used to be. Just not a concept even in circulation

Definitely around in the 80s because my Dad loves Christmas, he has a collection of Christmas jumpers and rotates wearing them all through December. Photos from my 80s childhood show him wearing some.

Also I did just google, Val Doonican (my Grandma's heartthrob) wore them for his Christmas specials, then Charles Brandreth and Timmy Mallet wore them too. They became something to be poked fun at in Bridget Jones's Diary which came out in 1996!

So no, not the last 10 years. I think sometimes for Christmas etc you stuff because the kids will love it so for that reason alone, your Dp is a bah humbug.

@Saladcreamormayo I’m with you OP! 😁 I bought matching pyjamas for myself, daughter and the dog. I was the only enthusiastic one and the photo never happened!

Bridget Jones came out in ‘96 😱

My husband doesn’t like Xmas jumpers. He has a very nice knitted Santa hat, which he tolerates wearing when the rest of us are wearing our jumpers. It is a nice compromise. He also has some Christmas socks.

There are lots of alternative christmas jumpers around if he doesn’t want anything too loud - I like the idea of plain red or green. Or a simple fair isle jumper is a good alternative, especially in subtle colours.

lazylinguist · 23/11/2021 18:23

I like classy Christmas jumpers - proper wool with wintry fairisle motifs etc, but cheap acrylic ones with garish characters on etc... nope. And matching family ones, or social media snaps of the whole family in their festive jumpers or pyjamas - definitely a lot bit cringe.

Agreed. I love a winter cosy quality knit jumper but the rest can get in the sea.
lazylinguist · 23/11/2021 19:03

Definitely @pictish! I'm a knitter, so I'm a bit fussy about knitwear. I'd like to make tastefully festive jumpers for all my family, but it would take me aaages. I still probably wouldn't make them all wear them for a cringeworthy Christmas social media post though I so would Grin.

UndertheCedartree · 23/11/2021 19:15

@Artesia - don't know where you are but it's freezing here - definitely jumper weather!

HollowTalk · 23/11/2021 19:18

I am with him 100% and if a partner of mine came into the room wearing a Christmas jumper I would push him out of the room pronto.

UndertheCedartree · 23/11/2021 19:20

I'm also so glad my DD's school doesn't do Christmas jumper day. They're very inclusive so wouldn't do something that would put pressure on parents to buy something for the day. They have non-uniform day on the day they have their Christmas dinner so can wear a Christmas jumper or other Christmas outfit then if they want but can choose to wear whatever they like (and what they already have).

ShortColdandGrey · 25/11/2021 15:21

My husband is the same he won't wear a Christmas jumper. Myself and my DD love our Christmas jumpers and pyjamas. We don't usually do matching pyjamas but she wants to this year.

RusholmeRuffian · 25/11/2021 15:26

I'm also on your husband's side. I wouldn't wear a Christmas jumper if you paid me. I am neither miserable or boring.
