Christmas Nightdress vs Pjs

Hello, just wondering on views. Has anyone gone for a christmass nightdress over Pjs on the basis that they can be work for multiple years. My dd will be 2 at Christmas and I've fallen in love with a nightdress which is a lot more than I'd spend on PJs but thinking I can justify it as it be used for multiple years.

It's the standing up from kneeling that can cause them to either rip them or have an accident. Also how safe would that be excitedly going up and downstairs? It's got the same limitations as a party dress.
I'd rather buy cheaper PJ's and let them be as independent as able with food/drinks/play. But if your child is quite passive etc it would work well.

It looks like a big trip hazard to me. Plus a lot of fabric to get twisted round her in bed.
Pjs are better

Jammies are much better and warmer.

Mine loves a nightdress but I would agree that one is very long for a just turned 2 year old. The ones we have tend to be shorter and therefore less of a trip hazard and she was a bit older when she started wearing them.. about 2 and a half.

Thank you all, things I hadn't thought of! I think I got caught up in the adorable image and not the practicalities!

Powell Craft are easily available from Ebay second hand or cheaper than full price. DD had loads of them but never wore them that long as it'd be a right old faff.

My DD wore a nightie until she was about 6. She preferred them. Always white company ones.

lobsteroll · 22/11/2021 18:39

My eldest prefers nighties and we have lots like the one in your picture. Is that a Smock London one? I'd also recommend Powell Craft and Mini Lunn.

ChristmasEvieNight · 22/11/2021 19:01

@lobsteroll yes it's a Smock London, I'll check out the other suggestions Smile

My youngest dd has always preferred a nightie over pyjamas! I love that nightdress and if mine was younger I would totally buy it!

Nowadays (age 9) she steals DH or my tshirts to sleep in or I buy her XXS nighties from the ladies section in primark!

ChristmasEvieNight · 22/11/2021 20:26

@nocutsnobuttsnococonuts I recall preferring nighties as well. It's really beautiful and suppose to fit until 4 (just getting shorter).

You're right about them lasting longer. We've definitely got at least a year and a half out of most of them. And my youngest will use them too, they are excellent quality and made to last.

ChristmasEvieNight · 23/11/2021 10:35

@lobsteroll that's good to hear!

DD had one similar and it needed a lot more ironing than pyjamas!

If you want it buy it. X
