I know it's no longer seen as popular or tasteful but I'm after some not too expensive bright tinsel for my Christmas tree. Have seen some im JL but it's 8 pounds a go!

The Pound Shop!

LawnFever · 20/11/2021 09:17

Wilkinson’s, or try pound shops/B&M bargains/the Range Smile

I saw some in Sainsbury's yesterday. Basic thin tinsel for £1 or thick fluffy for £3.

Neeko · 20/11/2021 09:18

Lidl have some in just now and there's lots in The Range.

Scarby9 · 20/11/2021 09:18

Garden centres.

2Hot2Handle · 20/11/2021 09:20

Is it because it’s plastic? I’ve noticed a few everyday products seem to be harder to come back recently, too. I guessed because they’re made of plastic. Tinsel falls apart easily and gets thrown out easily.

CallMeRisley · 20/11/2021 09:22

I’ve seen it in B&M this year

ReviewingTheSituation · 20/11/2021 09:23

Unless you're going to use it for years and years, it's really bad for the environment. The less of it around, the better, I'd say.

Not only is it plastic, and unrecyclable, it's really damaging to wildlife when they (inevitably) get hold of it.

ReviewingTheSituation · 20/11/2021 09:25

And no, I'm not 'Bah Humbug' about xmas decs, or a raving eco-warrier, but there are so many ways to decorate without tinsel.

PriamFarrl · 20/11/2021 09:26

Have you not got one of those cheap Christmas shops that pop up in town? They always have tinsel.

ThatDreamSheep · 20/11/2021 09:28

I've seen it in Wilkos and Lidl so far this week

chickensafari · 20/11/2021 09:31

There was plenty in B&Q yesterday- along with some VERY good artificial trees, I picked up a 6ft tree for £74 which is as realistic as my sisters Balsam Hill!
I got some green tinsel to thicken out the middle, its the first artifical tree we've ever had so I'm excited to get it out and fluff it up!

prettybird · 20/11/2021 09:37

My tinsel, which is over 20 years old (some of it over 30 years old) is much nicer than the modern day stuff as the "pieces" along them are much finer Xmas Smile

Fritilleries · 20/11/2021 09:38

Lord almighty. It should be in your attic from last year.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 20/11/2021 09:42

The range has loads

I did laugh at that. I bought tinsel once in my life. 40 years ago. It gets trundled out every year.
AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 20/11/2021 09:50

My local garden centre has loads and lots of brightly coloured ones

DamnitFanny · 20/11/2021 10:08

I’ve tinsel which is about 30 years old so not too unethical!

KurtWilde · 20/11/2021 10:10

It's lametta I'm struggling to find! I'd had my old stuff for years but last year the pups got at the Christmas tree and most of the lametta got wrecked.

Crabapple04 · 20/11/2021 10:11

Charity shops usually have lots Christmas stuff now and you can pick up some vintage tinsel insteadHalloween Grin

who DOESN'T use it for years?

These threads where people hark on about the environment, if you throw out tinsel and plastic toys etc... then your the problem because most people DON'T it's not remotely the tinsels fault or those who use tinsel.

The problem isn't non-perishables it's people with a snobby 'one use/disposable' mindset (usually the same people who throw out the word 'tat') and what's worse is these people acknowledge how bad their mindset is but assume it normal and not their fault so everyone else must be punished.

Lots of tinsel in The Range, also saw some in B&M, and Tesco yesterday.

We don't know OP circumstances.

I have only bought tinsel once but that once I bought it I'm glad I didn't get a lecture about how I should be magically shitting tinsel instead of buying it - everyone needs to buy it at some point to have it.

In my case it's when I got my own home and no longer used my parents (because they still used it), I can imagine you might need new things if you divorce and are setting up a new house or maybe she gifted hers to her kid (lots of people seem to gift baubles and vintage decor) when they moved out and is replacing it etc...

I’m sure I got some in B&M a couple of years ago, don’t know if they still do it though. Got some retro 80s style decorations and skinny tinsel as well at the same time, but they seem to have gone a bit more upmarket this year with their dec’s.
