I have no idea what to buy my mum, she doesn't have any hobbies, she's not into fancy bath sets etc.

I might be going to a designer outlet shop so I'm thinking of getting her something from there, just wondering what others are getting for their mums Smile

@BlibBlabBlob that sounds lovely, but it's not something i think my mum would like, but i think my dad might Hmm how long does it take? I'm not sure i will have time, maybe my dd will and she could do it.

@olivehater I like the sound of a silk pillowcase, where did you get it from?

A couple of books, a litre of baileys, massive box of ferrero rocher, some hand cream and nail varnishes, a candle, a book of 1000 suduko puzzles. Small things to open really - sent this month a fake oodie and fleecy blanket to help keep her warm. The main thing is visiting us and seeing the boys and spending time together. Oh, and a jack savarotti cd

Onlyabean · 19/11/2021 23:51

A beautiful textured hand crocheted fiddle blanket with little things attached to it for her to play with. She will love it! (Alzheimer’s).

I've got mine lego flowers. She saw me enjoy lego last year and got herself a set, she liked the mindfulness of building it but obviously doesn't play with it ha so I thought the flowers might be nice for her to have on display after building??

Billy Connolly book
Ancestry and genealogy book
Engraved photo frame with photo of kids
Planter with bulbs
Chocolate

Nothing very exciting but whatever I buy she says I shouldn't have so 🤷🏻‍♀️

She doesn't need anything and is housebound so I'm pretty limited.

2319inprogress · 20/11/2021 00:02

Oh god I hear you mine needs NOTHING & constantly tells us she doesn't want "stuff".
I have turtle doves recycled neck warmer & wristwarmers, two different sweets that she loves & would usually add a book but she's having sight problems so that might be a problem...

Will make something for her with the kids although as we always do this we are running out of ideas 😂

She likes a photo book of the kids more than anything but I just don't have the time to make one before Christmas (will do between Christmas & new year so she'll get it in January)

Cashmere socks
Suede gloves
Revlon hot air brush
Pyjamas and robe

I've also ordered a hand-knitted aran cardigan for her, I can knit but I can't do aran.

DoodleBelle · 20/11/2021 00:04

A nice jumper, some slipper boots, posh biscuits, some hotel chocolat and a big tub of jelly babies

Guineapiggiesmalls · 20/11/2021 00:06

My mum is into luxury stuff, so is usually easy to buy for but also has a tendency to just buy something if she wants it Hmm among other things, I got her a pair of cashmere wrist warmers from turtle doves, which I’m quite proud of, plus hey’re recycled, so fit the sustainably brief. They arrived yesterday and I’ve already ordered myself a pair

Guineapiggiesmalls · 20/11/2021 00:07

@2319inprogress great minds!

2319inprogress · 20/11/2021 00:10

Definitely @Guineapiggiesmalls Grin we won't finish the quote

She's quite elderly now so useful things with some edible treats.

Double pack of thermal tops and leggings as she feels the cold.
A tailor made hamper full of her favourite treats.

My frail, very elderly MIL was given a gold tubed, bright red lipstick by our daughter last Christmas and it was received with absolute delight. Please, put one frivolous thing in too Smile.

I mostly buy her clothes, occasionally jewellery, as she doesn't really like new beauty or make up stuff, even hand cream - she just buys her usual when it runs out. Doesn't like scented candles or bubble bath. Doesn't consider presents 'for the house' eg cooking gadgets as proper presents. My stepmum is easy to buy for (and lovely too) - she appreciates the kind of things I would like - a posh scented candle, nice hand wash/body lotion/bath stuff, scarves, gloves... in fact we use each other for regifting things we don't want too, usually as an extra - I gave her a lovely wool scarf I received (can't wear wool) and she sent me a pair of gloves that were too big for her!

Theraindropontherose · 20/11/2021 00:27

A beautiful glass chopping board from ouisemead.co.uk. And some socks with a picture of her puppy on them from gopupsocks.com.as well as some bamboo socks. The children have bought her a personalised doormat.

My DM is perpetually cold. I've bought her this: www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1106073170/cream-wool-robe-made-from-recycled

snugglyblanket · 20/11/2021 01:10

My mum doesn't need anything so we agreed a while ago to just buy each other consumables, usually gin. This year she's getting an m&s snowglobe gin.

Poppins17 · 20/11/2021 08:05

As a joint present with my dad I’ve bought an Alexa and a stand, and then for her alone I’ve bought her a top from M&S, some fingerless fur gloves, a pair of fluffy socks, a scarf, some sleep sprays, a large Cadbury selection box and then a stocking which will be filled with things like tubs of sweets, nougat etc

Aerielview · 20/11/2021 09:23

In recent years I started giving my mum vouchers for things I know she'd definitely like and use - her hairdressers, beauty salon, and for reflexology. She appreciates these more than an actual present. I still struggle with buying for my dad though!

2Hot2Handle · 20/11/2021 09:28

I worked out a while back that my mum had pretty much all the stuff that she needed, so I now focus on experiences, so that we can spend time together. Spa days, National Trust or RHS pass, afternoon tea, hotel overnight stay away somewhere. I justify the cost, because half of it is for me anyway, as I’ll be there with her!
If money is tight, afternoon tea at a garden centre like Squires is nice and you can get vouchers there for it.

HettySunshine · 20/11/2021 09:33

I'm getting my mum some high thread count bedding. I got myself a 300 thread count sheet earlier in the year and it's the cosiest thing ever!

Whitefire · 20/11/2021 13:23

I try to avoid 'stuff', she has hoarding tendencies so I am never wanting to add to the issue if I can avoid it. So either a food hamper type thing or money to do something.

Silversun83 · 20/11/2021 13:33

Mum is dead, but for MIL:

A keyring personalised with drawing done by DC.
A photo book of DC from previous year.
Official school and nursery photos in nive frames
Fillable baubles made by DC.

Blush Maybe a bit too DC-focused...
