I want to send a small (c.£10 each) gift to a friend’s kids. They live abroad in Europe but grew up in the UK until a few years ago. Any ideas please. I don’t know what they are into and want to send them roughly the same.
I wondered about English chocolate but they live in a country renowned for chocolate. Or nice nail polish but my dd said no. No idea whether they have a bath or not so no bath bombs. Vouchers no good as abroad. I wk freed about fluffy christmas socks but my dd turned nose up at that too. Help!

I don’t know whether they have pierced ears

Lip balm set
Alphabet cosmetic bag
Shopper bag

Nice stationery? Notebook and washi tape or something like that?

wednesday32 · 18/11/2021 23:45

Perhaps a craft set such as charm bracket making set. Smyths and Argos usually have a nice selection of craft sets

IggyAce · 19/11/2021 05:52

Percy pigs, most kids love those.
I’d probably choose some stationary or a book.

I would ask your friend if they are going to have to pay tax on the parcel. I am in cyprus and since brexit we have to pay tax on all parcels from UK wether it says gift or not. I recieverd a parcel for my birthday with a rugby shirt in it, and had to pay 17 euro to clear customs. Might be better to stick to an envelope with money in it

smaragda · 19/11/2021 06:29

Another way to avoid the tax issue is to order something online from the place they live.

Tinitiny · 19/11/2021 06:29

Nice stationery always goes down well and is easy to post.
Vouchers that can be ordered and posted in their home country.

You cannot send nail polish abroad - check the prohibited items list.
Good point about tax too.

We lived in Belgium and still would have appreciated British biscuits and chocolate. They are different to what you would generally buy in Belgium and taste like 'home'. But the tax on the parcel is definitely a consideration.

Books?? Bobbi Brown book on teenage beauty for instance?

reluctantbrit · 19/11/2021 07:56

Small braclet? DD gave Accessorize bracelets when her friends turned 10-12 as they look nice but aren't overly expensive. Very slim package and can be posted like a large letter.

I wouldn't go for "make your own", DD (14) would find that childish.

Could you order from a store in their country and get it delivered to them? I do this with my mum in Germany when the item is too big/heavy and postage too expensive.

MrsHookey · 19/11/2021 10:07

Or euros perhaps/Amazon vouchers? They can then select their own stuff.

Comedia · 19/11/2021 17:57

Oh wow did not know that re tax. So if I can make it look like a letter should be ok?

Have a look at the Lisa Angel website for some good ideas - they have lovely bracelet and often charm bracelet kits that are very postable.

smaragda · 19/11/2021 20:16

Yes if it looks like a card or a letter it should be fine

Legally, no. You have to complete a customs declaration for anything posted outside the uk.
