What to do with last years presents?

Grandparents tend to over buy for our kids and as a result, some of it is barely played with. Is it too soon to pass it on?
The kids aren't interested in the items so no loss to them but I feel guilty because they were bought with loving intentions!

Not too soon, it's almost been a year and you'll need to make space for the next load of gifts I imagine! I often do a toy clear out in December, it gets toys in to the local charity shops for those who need them.

Donate them to a charity shop or to a charity that will give them to less fortunate kids, that's what I'd do

Our local food bank has asked for gifts this Christmas.

Pass them on!
The loving intentions have done their job, and won’t grow stronger as the toys languish in a cupboard. However in the spirit of ‘pay it forward’ could make all the difference to a struggling family.

Yes, pass it on to someone who will use/enjoy it.
Ideas - a reverse advent calendar where your child choses one thing per day in December that they don't play with any more and want to pass on to another child. Put them in a decorated box and take to charity shop in new year.
See if there are any charities near you that collect toys to give to families in need at Christmas. I think the Salvation Army do this. If there is anything that is still unused/new it could be donated there.
If you live in a street with lots of families/kids get your child to organise a front garden tabletop sale for any inexpensive items. They can make their own flyers for putting through people's letterboxes. Other kids can come and buy and your children make a bit of pocket money or could make some money for a charity.
For little ones, have a sort out of "baby toys" to give to Santa's elves so Santa can give them to babies. The elves could leave a "thankyou" treat. You shove the stuff in the car boot and take to charity shop when child isn't around.
