What's everyone getting teachers/nursery staff??

I always get them a Bomb Cosmetics Christmas cracker. They look really festive and are usually on offer for about £6.
And they can regift them easily if they don't like them Grin

Ryannah · 16/11/2021 09:46

Am I supposed to buy for nursery teachers? There are five of them, I can’t afford five presents!

SnowSurprise · 16/11/2021 09:52

Nothing. Might get the Dc to make a card if they want to.

OhMyCrump · 16/11/2021 09:53

Nothing. I already have enough to think about!

Bluedabbadeedabbydye · 16/11/2021 10:08

Personalised soaps.

Stompythedinosaur · 16/11/2021 10:14

I always do chocs. Not very exciting, but there are quite a few so I only want to pay a couple of pounds each. I figure disposables are better than things that take up space in their house.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 16/11/2021 10:15

We get nursery workers a voucher for the bakery next door to them.

dannydyerismydad · 16/11/2021 10:20

Nursery workers often have to pay into a kitchen kitty for drinks and biscuits. A box of teabags and coffee and a packet of biscuits is always a welcome gift.

I just bought for DD's key worker last year because the nursery said no gifts due to covid (but didn't want to be the parent they talked about for getting nothing!).

This year I'll get a big box of chocolates for them to share and a little something separate for the key worker.

KatherineofGaunt · 16/11/2021 10:43

We just gave a card last year before Christmas to the nursery workers, then in January I gave them a big box of posh chocolates. As a teacher, I know there can be an abundance before Christmas but then in the new year a sad lack of anything, when perhaps it's most needed!

Hardbackwriter · 16/11/2021 10:48

We gave DS's keyworker (who we all, especially but not only him, adore) an Amazon voucher last year and a big tin of chocolates for all the other staff to share - I'll do the same this year. DS and I also make cards for them all but that's more for his, and a bit my, benefit - it gives us a fun activity that kills an hour on a Sunday and he gets a lot of joy from making something 'for' people - I'm not sure they actually desperately want cards of the quality that he is producing Grin

TheGirlWhoLived · 16/11/2021 12:13

I’ve gone for boring chocolate here it’s green and blacks and only £3.50 on Amazon at the min!

DockOTheBay · 16/11/2021 12:17

Nothing. They don't need/ want anything from us and there are 2 teachers and 2 assistants so too much for me. DD will make them each a card.

TheSpiral · 16/11/2021 12:21

Tiptree mini jams/ marmalades/ chocolate spreads/ chutneys. Three, wrapped up like a cracker. The Tiptree factory sells them like pick and mix (appreciate that is not an option if you don't like in a very specific area but other jams are available Grin.)

MarineBlue33 · 17/11/2021 14:35

Always done vouchers - a nice mum does a collection. Then they get what they want

JustHereWithPopcorn · 17/11/2021 14:37

We have 4/5 nursery workers so I just get a couple of big boxes of Lindt chocolate boxes to share

Peach2021 · 17/11/2021 14:40

I work in a school and the staff kitchen is stuffed full of tins of biscuits, naice tea/coffee and boxes of chocolate. Also mugs saying world's best teacher.

It's really difficult I know (I'm also a mum), but most of the teachers I know would be really happy with a hand-made card and don't need or expect anything else.

Coffee45 · 17/11/2021 14:46

Daughter is in reception class, with 2 teachers and 2 TAs. I’m going to get couple boxes of chocolates to share. Or 4 small individual boxes maybe. Not sure now.

Sprogonthetyne · 17/11/2021 19:06

Homade card with a Costa voucher inside. Probably more then is needed, but DS is autistic and can be challenging, so I wanted to show that their appreciated.

foxgoosefinch · 17/11/2021 19:42

DD has two teachers and a TA. I found some lovely small seed planters in the shape of doves in M&S with I think muscari seeds in. Only about £5 each. The teachers are getting those, and the TA (male) some Christina pudding truffles. Might get DD to make the teachers a Christmas decoration each too (she likes making decorations with pine cones and glitter and twine hot-glued on as a loop).

When she was in nursery I used to get sone chocolates for the key worker plus a big box for all the staff.

foxgoosefinch · 17/11/2021 19:42

Christmas pudding not Christina! 🤣

PearandHoney · 17/11/2021 19:50

We always do a collection for the teachers and get them John Lewis vouchers. Then they can get what they want or even spend it on food shopping in Waitrose if they prefer. Normally each teacher gets about £250 which IMO is better than 30 boxes of chocolates / candles / flowers etc!!

I think a homemade card from children is nice too for teaching staff, but personally I wouldn’t want to receive homemade decorations or other items. Keep that for family.

livingthegoodlife · 17/11/2021 19:51

Nothing. Just a card. Way too many teachers in my children's lives to buy presents. I may get something for the volunteers who lead groups such as Cubs etc.

PurpleHydrangea1 · 17/11/2021 19:54

Not much - a nice box of biscuits, tea and coffee. My son is in ALN class so lots of TAs. Can't afford to buy individually.
We'll make a nice card as well.

I’m surprised the school allow this these days! Schools are effectively charities so public guidelines on accepting monetary gifts apply. Ours has recently sent round updated guidance about how monetary or significant gifts are discouraged as otherwise they fall foul of the staff code of conduct. For that reason only token gifts are normally OK.
