Advent calendar fillings HELP!

Lowhum · 15/11/2021 12:32

Hi everyone,

I need help! I have bought a fabric advent calendar this year to fill for two girls (4 and 7).

So far I have some chocolate coins, Santa lollies, fluffy socks, lip balm...but that’s it! I have to find 24 days worth to fill it with.

I want very little waste this year so I need each day to include something edible or useful so we have no tat left hanging around. Any suggestions?

A little note to do an activity? "Go on a Christmas light-spotting walk" "Christmas film night" etc

Marshmallows for on a hot chocolate if they like that. Fun coloured shoelaces for their trainers.

Hair clips or a scrunchie if they'll use it

Marshmallow toppers for hot chocolate

Bath bombs, bath fizz, bath confetti, stuff that turns the water different colours, bath foam

Seeds to grow

Nail polish
Nail files
Pencils
Rubbers
Mini colouring book
Hot choc sachets
Mini marshmallows
T lights (under supervision)
Hand written note for a Xmas dvd/CD

I do quiz questions or Xmas jokes in each pocket with a chocolate. Been doing it for years now and it saves me going bankrupt. Kids love it and jokes have got ruder the older they have become.

Thanks for the suggestions!
We have some Xmas outings planned so that’s a great one. I will age some paper and make it look like a scroll and write on them!
I love the coloured laces and rubbers suggestions :)

I read on a stocking thread that those magic milk straws are a hit so I’ll buy some of those too.

Over the years I've bought;
Rubbers
Badges
Hair clips
Hair bobbles
Kinder bars
Chocolate Santa's, coins etc
Christmas pencils
Fluffy/glitter pencils or pens
Christmas craft bits
Jewellery - picking up bits in the sale or splitting packs of things is good for this and hair accessories.
Bouncy balls
Flashing balls
Christmas stickers

My kids are older now but this year I've managed to put some small twinkly lights wrapped up cleverly in (Poundland!)

Underthestairsbears · 15/11/2021 14:22

I'm still doing it for my 23 year old (sharing it with her boyfriend!) and she's had one since she was 1 or 2!

We've got a fabric calendar and just put chocolates in each pocket,

And every other day I put in one piece of the nativity scene so that by the end we've got the full set up. They are always really excited the day it's the Baby Jesus 🤣🤣

A Christmas activity raffle -
Wrap and number Christmas books, small craft kits, cookie cutters etc. as well as notes for things like hot chocolate walks to see the neighborhood Christmas be lights etc.

averythinline · 15/11/2021 14:56

I mainly do activities in ours...do a choc coin a day and something festive from Xmas music to panto...etc some of which is supplied by others eg Carol concert, school fair etc.... I have a spreadsheet :) try and add something new or tweak each year... but often not much..

EcoCustard · 15/11/2021 14:58

I put a novelty pencil and sheet of headed paper, envelope and stamp in to write a letter to Santa. Craft and baking activities on a piece of paper, panto tickets near the end. Aldi and Lidl some small Santa/reindeer/snowman chocolates in a tub and I put one in for each kid a day.

Redkatagain · 15/11/2021 15:04

A 1st class stamp each, so they can post a letter to Santa

A pound coin each

Edible glitter for Christmas baking

A satsuma, ribbon and cloves to make Clove oranges

Spices for mulled apple juice (non-alcoholic) and mummy can have the boozy variety if she wants Wink

NuffSaidSam · 15/11/2021 15:05

Cookie cutter in festive shape
Playmobile/Lego/Sylvanian person if they collect any of that
Post-its
Paper and a stamp for their Santa letter
Candy cane
Tree chocolates
Decoration for the tree/plain bauble for them to decorate themselves

I find cake toppers of their favourite cartoons, last year Paw Patrol and Totoro, I searched on eBay for cake figures of each and got packs of 12 figures for about £5, have been played with all year and DD12 loved the totoros.
