Really hard Lego or something similar which isn't too expensive?

dd19 still loves Lego but she's amazing at it. Bought her a silly Fat Thor Marvels kit for her birthday and it took her about half an hour. I'd like to get her something to build over Xmas but don't want to spend the money if it is too straightforward - budget probably about £70. Also are all the kits so tiny these days?? I'm sure I remember Lego bricks being much bigger!

My son is obsessed with Lego (Colosseum is all he has on this years Xmas list 🤦🏻‍♀️) and really enjoyed doing this one, I think it came with its own sound track and you might get a good BF deal...it's on his wall so slightly different concept of sitting on a shelf 😜

Lego is expensive, but DD age 13 and myself love building it. If you look on the Lego website there are several kits between £50 and £70. Is she into Star Wars or Marvel at all, or Harry Potter? The Central Perk one is around £65.

We have made several Hogwarts items, Friends Apartments and Central Perk, Stranger Things.

I would love Titanic but its £570 Grin

If my daughters were into Lego they would have loved a Friends themed one, or Harry Potter.

Just bought my goddaughter the Lego bonsai tree- it looks great!

Echo other posters who recommended the Friends Central Perk or apartment sets. Also the Winnie the Pooh treehouse is about £80 and a lovely build.

Ooh I was going to say the Bonsai Tree - I've got it for DH as one of his presents.

Have you ever seen Nanoblocks? Teeny weeny but definitely all absorbing. Look at the Lego architecture range if you really want Lego. We did get the fish tank/ aquarium for DD's room at uni this year.

I love lego and have loads of adult sets.

This is a bit over budget but amazing https://www.lego.com/en-gb/product/santa-s-visit-10293?icmp=LP-SHH-Standard-NOHerooHolidayCampaignnEarlyPhasee10293SantassVisit_LP-MP-NO-HQK6RQHHCY they also have an Elf house one that I love.

I have the Porsche 911 waiting to be built. I have the VW Beetle, Camper, Mini & Fiat 500 behind me in my office. Yoda is standing in the fireplace and I have the Ideas marble maze to fiddle with. The Simpsons House had to be put away to make space. I would definitely recommend the Creator Expert vehicles.

My nephew built the Tiranic over the weekend, but £569 is over budget. He said the typewriter as his most challenging build as he was convinced he would put the wrong letters on the keys. Again, over budget. DD said she likes the look of the various floral sets, but they don't look challenging enough.

You could always get a fake version from Wish or somewhere. They generally don’t come with instructions , we accidentally got a large Minecraft set, it looked identical to the actual Lego hence why we thought it was Lego but it came in bags with zero instructions!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 15/11/2021 19:10

I’ve got my 20 year old DD the Lego Adidas trainer, I think that was about £70.

I know this isn't Lego, but these craft kits are great. (If I can get the link to work) There are a lot of different ones too.

@Pippi1970 They are really good but a bit addictive. You'll have to let me know if your DD enjoys it if you decide to go for it.

ElephantOfRisk · 17/11/2021 15:24

Probably not for OPs DD, but for those with DC needing a different challenge from Lego, try Fischer Technik, My Ds used to love these and they are quite challenging.

Legoisawesome · 17/11/2021 18:55

I really love a Chinese brand called loz. It’s miniature Lego but proper bricks. They are way cheaper than Lego and being small they take a bit longer to build.
