Gift ideas for a dog owning man

Looking for some useful gift suggestions for my husband. We will shortly be the proud owners of a dog and my husband is the driver behind this decision.
I’m looking for some good ideas for gifts. So far I’m thinking a thermal mug for his morning coffee when he’s out on a walk. And poo bags in a holder. Please hit me with your practical suggestions!

Beanie hat with built-in head torch, fabulous!

Stompythedinosaur · 14/11/2021 22:16

Gloves that work on a touchscreen and wireless headphones, maybe an audible subscription if he doesn't already have one?

FlamingoQueen · 14/11/2021 22:30

Hi- vis jacket for winter walks

Notsureaboutusername · 14/11/2021 22:32

Dog collar that illuminates.

IReallyCan · 14/11/2021 22:36

Training book, treat pouch, neck warmer, portable collapsible water bowl, clicker, head torch.

I really wouldn't recommend drinking coffee while walking a dog, certainly not a new one that may be unpredictable/ not yet adequately trained. And what does he do with the mug when he's using those poo bags?!Grin

doggydaft · 14/11/2021 22:39

Long johns/thermals and waterproofs....
Many dogs over many years and the above make wet, winter walks so much better 😃
Oh and decent socks and boots, there's nothing worse than cold or wet feet.
Enjoy your pup.

SourMilkGhyll · 14/11/2021 22:47

As above: thermals, wellies, waterproofs, hat, touch screen gloves, audio subscription, headphones.

You're both going to be outside a lot, and it's very cold, dark and wet!

Yappy.com I good for personalised doggy gifts.

If you have young kids/grandkids that you DH could read to, the "wondrous adventure book" is lovely.

Rucksack to put empty mug and poo bags in Grin

I once bought DH a camera you can put on dog collar to see what they see ( IFYSWIM ) - We would not have won an Oscar but it made us laugh

I'd go for a nice dog-themed mug for that coffee when he gets back. (Loads of breed specific ones on eg Cafe Press). Seriously, if you've got a new dog (and certainly puppy) it's best to have both hands free and full attention available ... maybe leave some of the distracting ideas for another year and focus on the clothes.

A Dicky bag for the full poo bags. It's brilliant.

AwkwardPaws27 · 15/11/2021 20:29

Thermal mug is good - one with a fully closing top & handle or holder to attach to belt is even better.

I have one of these
www.etsy.com/uk/listing/925986612/handmade-clip-on-waterproof-treat-pouch

It holds poo bags, treats and a small bottle of hand sanitiser. Open top treat pouches are a must for accessing treats quickly when rewarding behaviour.

I also have a small zip-up wet bag for full poo bags from the same maker - they aren't listed at the moment but I'm sure they could make one or you could get one elsewhere. Totally brilliant when you are nowhere near a poo bin so you don't have to hold a full bag for half a mile. Also prevents arsehole puppy or someone else's dustbin of a labrador jumping up and tearing a hole in the bag (we had a very near miss. I never go out without it now).

Headlamp for standing in the garden at 2/4/6am waiting for puppy to pee.

I'd also suggest Dog Training Advice and Support on Facebook - the free group is great buy they have a brilliant puppy group (I think its about £12 a month which goes to charity) where you can ask qualified positive trainers any questions and moan/celebrate with other owners of similarly aged pups. It was invaluable for us.

I have a poo bag holder that holds the rolls of bags. I really like it. Bag always handy as I attach it to the leash handle.

Small torch or hat with headlamp. Last night the dog did his business in the shade of a telephone post (blocking out streetlamp) and I could not find the darn poo. It was ridiculous. I was scrabbling around feeling for it in dry leaves. With a bag over my hand of course.

A door bell thing for the inside of the door for the dog to jingle when it wants out. I made one of macrame but they have nice ones on Etsy.

A coupon for the pet shop. He will be tempted to buy things for the dog.

Have fun with your pup!

A mud daddy went down well here. And a lead with clips both ends and lots of rings, handy for clipping dog to pub benches. This year I've got DP and Ddog matching christmas jumpers from joules
