I've just bought an apple and cinnamon gin. I am considering a bottle of Amaretto but neither me or dh like coke as a mixer so not sure. Cremant is purchased for Christmas lunch/evening.

Winter is coming - what'll you have to drink?

" If you like a quirk look for flavoured canadian whiskey"

If you like CC and quirky have you tried an Air Canada??

When shot drinks were all the rage (ok - maybe it was before you were born....) a B52 was very popular layered shot. Baileys topped with Kahlua topped with triple sec.

Someone on the better side of the border decided to sub the triple sec with Yukon Jack which is a honey whiskey. Much nicer than the nasty orange triple sec.

I'm turning in to my nan and actually enjoy a bit of sherry!

AutumnAnn · 14/11/2021 17:12

I was pregnant last Christmas so will definitely be enjoying a drink this year, got myself a bottle of apple pie Baileys, some Disaronno, normal Irish cream and will probably also get a bottle of the Disaronno velvet, some chocolate or salted caramel liquor from M&S and we've got a bottle of champagne that's been cupboard swapping since 2019 that we probably won't open for another year.

We only had orange San Pellegrino here to mix with Amaretto recently, it was surprisingly lovely!

@SmudgeButt I doubt that is was before I was born Grin i will look out for Yukon jack thank you!

The hotel chocolat vodka cream is absolutely divine I can confirm. Dh bought a bottle for me last week, thought we could put it away for Christmas. Then we had a party and now it’s all gone Grin
I like disaronno neat, the velvet version with a bit of ice.
Other than that, I will drink vodka and caffeine free Diet Coke like the rockstar I am Grin
Always get a bottle of kings ginger in for dh as he likes that, and we made sloe gin which is ready for straining and decanting in a couple of weeks.
Our booze cabinet is fully stocked all year round though as we have people round quite a lot in general, always a selection of gin/vodka/brandy/cognac etc, lots of different mixers and cordials for non drinkers too.
Beers and wine will come from majestic or laithewaites, whichever we drive past first.

Hetyanni · 14/11/2021 17:38

Thanks for all the amaretto suggestions - def getting a bottle now.
That hotel chocolat stuff sounds quite incredible too.

Amaretto and fresh orange is one of my favourite drinks 🍹

Incywinceyspider · 14/11/2021 17:43

No booze for me this year Sad. But normally I liked mulled wine or Baileys on christmas eve, bucks fizz on christmas morning, white or rose wine and maybe a disaronno in the evening. I'm also quite partial to a toffee vodka

MrsVeryTired · 14/11/2021 17:45

I like Baileys with lots of ice (I know! shrugs), but thats my winter drink

Hummingbirdcake · 14/11/2021 17:58

Kahlua - very nice with milk over ice.
Advocaat
Amaretto

goose1964 · 14/11/2021 18:18

We have well stocked booze cabinets. DH has stocked upon vodka because we (I) need to make the after eight vodka. He's also bought some flavoured vodkas for cocktails. I bought the snow globe run from M&S because it was pretty. We've also stocked up with Crabbies ginger beer for DS1 who doesn't really like booze. Although he invented the name depth charge for a cocktail I made, equal parts of Tia Maria and Bailey's.

goose1964 · 14/11/2021 18:19

Rum not run

Sauvignonblanket · 14/11/2021 18:23

Fresh lime juice and ice with amaretto - gamechanger

LisforLemon · 14/11/2021 18:24

Amarula is also lovely over ice - it's cream and amarula juice (amarula is a fruit) - can't describe but it's kind of fruity, just lovely but doesn't last long... hic.

DuckonaBike · 14/11/2021 18:27

Did you know you can pour Amaretto over ice cream as a sort of grown up sauce? 😊

MissyB1 · 14/11/2021 18:33

@DuckonaBike
Yes and add a shot of espresso too! It becomes an affogato, yum yum!

DuckonaBike · 14/11/2021 18:42

Ooh I might have to try that MissyB1!

AutumnAlmanack · 14/11/2021 18:45

I've just added Drambuie to my order this week - had totally forgotten how lovely it is!

Mint baileys type thing from aldi. Honestly waayyy nicer than it sounds!

ScottChegg · 14/11/2021 19:06

I'm not a huge fan of Baileys, unless it's mixed with another liqueuer. Frangelico is one of my favourites. It tastes exactly like the limited edition biscotti baileys they did some years ago, for anyone that remembers that. Also like it mixed with Tia Maria.

HelloTreacle9 · 14/11/2021 19:08

Where do I start?! From 1 December: over ice, no mixer: Amaretto, or Baileys, or Stone's Ginger Wine, the latter to be drunk while putting the decks on the tree. Christmas drinks: everything including mulled wine. Christmas morning: crémant/other half-decent fizz (not prosecco, immediate headache) with OJ first thing, then proper champagne until lunch, then Nice Wine to go with the feast. Then anything goes... Boxing day family thing: espresso martinis to kick off. Also Gin & Nice Tonic (no bloody cucumber, mind) to perk one up when the feasting/prep/wrapping gets a Bit Much.
