At loss at what to get my sons for Christmas! Both already have (and enjoy)bikes, scooters, skateboards, trampoline, swings, climbing frame, craft supplies, tent, Lego, construction magnets. They are not that fussed by toys such a superhero figures etc anymore and I don't really want more plastic rubbish collecting dust! 7 year old is into Minecraft. We have it on my laptop and I would be tempted to buy him a console but can't afford Nintendo Switch prices (especially not X2). 5 year likes construction type things. Any ideas?

We are getting a basketball hoop and a punch bag/boxing gloves if either of those are things you think they might like?

Crumblinginside · 14/11/2021 07:36

Ours play Minecraft on their tablets (Amazon Fires) they were about £50

Mine are getting build a bear (they love teddies)
In the past - Lego sets (Lego Mario is lovely and interactive)

What about make your own slime kits, craft supplies (airdry clay etc)

Thanks for your reply. They have Amazon fires. Do you have to pay extra for Minecraft? Haven't ever seen it on there as an option to download

Gravitrax
Make your own bouncy ball kit
Volcano experiment set
Pokemon battle accademy game
Monopoly
Labyrinth
3D snakes and ladders
Badminton set

My sons age 11 and 9 share a switch. They love it. If you buy an extra set of joy cons then you can play Minecraft as a multiplayer game.

Thanks for the reply. We have a punch bag already and don't really have the space for a hoop in the garden. Thanks for the ideas though x

How about metal detectors and walk-in talkies?

My seven year olds main present will be Gravitrax. He’s also getting the Guineas book of world records. The major hit from last Xmas was the Brio pinball, and it gets played with a lot when friends come over. I really recommend it. I’ve also suggested to siblings/grandparents a £30 introduction to engineering set from Amazon and some Gravitrax add ons. I also looked at the Turing Tumble but thing it might best be kept till he’s 8 so next Xmas. Same with the Botley robot. Snap circuits are good if you don’t have those? And for his birthday the big hit was a kind of stunt remote control car which is currently £12.99 on Amazon, a bargain because it seems indestructible with great battery life!

WinterFirTree · 14/11/2021 16:24

It's not for every child, but my Minecraft loving Dcs love Minecraft pyjamas and tshirts and hoodies.

Yoyoyo1 · 14/11/2021 16:28

Do u have a link to the stunt car on amazon?

17caterpillars1mouse · 14/11/2021 16:29

Is knex still a thing. I remember my brother had a knex dinosaur and a Ferris wheel set as a child and o used to love it

Wow, great list! Thank you so much. Will have a look into all of those. I've already put a botley robot in my basket from a previous suggestion, looks right up their street ☺️

@Tabbypawpaw I have taken your idea for the Brio pinball !
Thankyou so much Thanks

Tabbypawpaw · 16/11/2021 13:02

@IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls you won’t regret it! It’s v hardy snd the first thing my seven year old son’s friends go to get from our toy cupboard when they come round. The only annoying thing is we’ve lost one of the four tiny balls but I guess you can get spares from Brio.
