we are at my mums (as usual) and this year we have 16 adults and 5 children (all under 8)

i think i am more stressed than she is, she has got catering for large numbers down to a fine art now but i can see tears and tantrums ahead (mostly mine )

About 20 of us without counting the normal Christmas Eve self-inviters!

ggirlsbells · 13/12/2007 18:20

10

saltirehangingonachristmastree · 13/12/2007 18:21

DH, the 2 DSes and myself. My mum refused to come this year

Hulababy · 13/12/2007 18:22

3 - 2 adults and 1 child, me, DH and DD How we spend our Christmas Day, just the three of us. Love it.

On Boxing Day there will be 9 adults and 1 child for me to cook for

AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 13/12/2007 18:23

DH, DD, DB and me. So 4!
M&D, PIL, BIL + his GF are joining us on Boxing Day.

yaddayule · 13/12/2007 18:23

Four of us plus MIL, BIL and my brother

Reckon dh will be down the pub with the last two

Nymphadora · 13/12/2007 18:23

Very sensible here, bf is cooking for me,& dds and thats it! (though we are fussy enough!)

kerryk · 13/12/2007 18:24

i would love to spend christmas just the 4 of us but my parents would be gutted if they did not get to see the girls on christmas day.

We have a massive family day. Lots of cousins, aunts, uncles etc. We have the morning to ourselves - open pressies, breakfast, Church service, home. Then in the afternoon the family descend! It's wonderful!

We all love it. Everyone brings food so it's no pressure on any one person (I do the turkey and the bread sauce). Kids have a fabby time.

Boxing Day we go to my bf's.

Every year the same. Nice open house!

Hulababy · 13/12/2007 18:27

kerryk - we started the "just us" think as soon as Dh and I moved intogether, to set the trend. We knew that is how we wanted it to be, esp when we eventually had children. I remmeber not liking having to go out, leaving my toys, etc. as a child on Christmas Day. So wanted DD to be able to stay home. Also didn't want me or Dh to have to drive between parents, one of us not drinking, etc. Just wanted peace, fun and togetherness

So as it was started ages ago there is no expectations from grandparents. They talk to DD and they also see DD on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.

ComeOVenReadyturkey · 13/12/2007 18:28

On the actual day we have dh, myself, ds, dd, mil, and fil. mil and fil are staying 2 nights (with dogs, we have cats btw) and my parents aare staying 4days/3 nights. Marsy what on earth do you do with over 20 people, and who are they all?

toastedteacake · 13/12/2007 18:28

Just the four of us for the first time. All other years, except one, since the eldest DC (6yr) was born have been spent with the MiL, so I am really looking forward to it being just us......

MarsyChristmas · 13/12/2007 18:32

Come... I told you. Everyone brings food. We play games, we laugh, we open pressies, we eat food, we scare the neighbours (well okay maybe not) and we laugh some more. It's a really wonderful time! We like being together and some of them I don't get to see much in the year because we live on different sides of London and are busy.

I have always loved having an open house. My mother always had one. I like people! And as I said... it's not hard work. The guys all tidy up after dinner and you've not seen charades until you've seen the Mars family charades PMSL!

i would possibly be bored still be 3pm if it was just the 4 of us, i am so used to having everyone around us but every year the girls have to leave all there neew presents a few hours after opening them which i feel is unfair.

luckily they have not been bothered so far they are more excited about seeing everyone but it makes the day really rushed.

we do the same in my family marsy, every family has a course of the meal to prepare and bring round then someone else is left to get nibbles crackers etc. it works really well.

Marsy - when my mum was young they lived in Peckham. Her childhood Christmases were like that, loads of people dropping in on christmas Eve, friends popping round with food and drink, some crashing out till Boxing Day

saltirehangingonachristmastree · 13/12/2007 18:36

Also emant to say that this is the first Christmas since the DSes wer born that it will be just the 4 of us. Also first new year since then that we won't be in scotland

Nymphadora · 13/12/2007 18:36

ANyone who wants can visit us, just not for lunch!

Myrrhcy · 13/12/2007 18:37

Us 4 plus my mum and brother.

I don't have any other family. Am always ambivalent about that actually.

belcantavinissima · 13/12/2007 18:40

there will be 9 of us altogether (inc 3 kids)

pinetreedog · 13/12/2007 18:44

at the in-laws. 12 of us probably, although one of the party always threatens to throw a flaky and not turn up.

pinetreedog · 13/12/2007 18:45

(I'm not cooking)
