Any recommendations of a scalextric track

Some of the reviews for the cheaper tracks are very mixed. I don’t mind paying a bit more but is it a lot better? It’s for my 12 year old car obsessed son. He can be quite heavy handed so I wouldn’t want it to be too flimsy

Scalextric is really hard for heavy handed kids. The cars need to be placed (and replaced) carefully in the track each time. We have one and DS is good with it (after a period of telling offs) but his friends often struggle with they visit.

I'd go for one of the starter sets and see how he gets on. There's one called Extreme Speed which is under £100.

My recommendation is don’t do it Grin

We had an actual Scalextric. The car flew off constantly. The metal fibres that connect to the track get frayed easily and you spend time trying to tidy them up. The track came apart easily. It hasn’t progressed much since the one we had in the 80s!

We have had several scalextric including for DH.
They are impossible to keep on the blinking track regardless of how much money you spend on them.

Ahh thanks all but how annoying ☹️ Will have to have a re-think

Yep, we never use ours as it's a pain in the arse.

We also had an anki overdrive, which is much better. The downside is that you need to install an app to use it, and I don't think they make it any more, so might be hard to find stock.

Don't get the mini ones, get the proper big 1:32 scalextric ones.

The basic figure of 8 track with crash in the crossover is fun for the kids. Yes the cars will fly off if you have no control - the point is to learn to control a car!

The drift set has that with the possibility of spinning the car to go the other way. List price is steep though. uk.scalextric.com/products/scalextric-drift-360-race-set-c1421m

ASDA had a good set for less than £50 in recent years - keep an eye on their offers for Christmas.

Or get second hand. As long as the track isn't rusty it should be good.
