Sponsor a goat? (or what is the best charity gift for children)

DS (8)’s Christmas List includes “medicine for sick people” (I remain uncertain as to whether this is a genuine desire to help others or whether he think it’ll get him in Santa’s good books!).

So I’d like to do a charity donation/gift in the ‘sponsor a goat’ style - something that feels tangible to DS/comes with a clear explanation of how the donation helps.

Any suggestions for charities that do this kind of thing?

I like goodgifts. They have a range of gifts for children including some medicines (or this or this) and healthcare related gifts.

you can get 5 mozzie nets for £21 via save the children

they have other things he might be interested in like a kitted out school bags, birth kit for midwives

what a thoughtful young man you have

Hi Op - my DC have made a similar ask this year ( perhaps it’s being discussed at school!).

I’m going to gift them a certain amount and then let them choose the donation on the unicef website. I think some of those gifts are really tangible - the pencils for schools, playthings for kids etc. And in a way I quite like that they don’t get some sort of gift or pack from it? Also figured that then choosing themselves might make it more real for them?

I use kiva with my children and let them choose the loan recipient. The loan is repaid and then you can choose again.

I came on to say Good Gifts but see erinaceous has said it already. Huge range of gifts and causes incl medicine based ones.

There isn’t a huge amount of detail provided about the gift though.

I found www.unicef.org.uk/paddingtons-postcards/ this which looks brilliant - make a donation to Unicef and your child gets a monthly postcard about life in another country
