Replacing an artificial tree - recommendations?

We have been using DH's childhood artificial tree for the last decade. DH is 34, the tree is at least 25 years old & its definitely starting to show its age.

We planned to buy a tree in the January sales last year but couldn't find a decent one that wasn't out of stock.

Any recommendations? Have you bought a tree in the last year or so that's great?
I'm hoping for full thick branches, 7-8ft, & prelit would be a bonus. Max budget of £200, less is better!

I'd love a real tree, but don't like them dying. I tried a potted one before and unfortunately it died. I can't really afford a yearly subscription service, & with pets & a DC on the way, the ease of artificial and non-dropping needles is a big advantage.

it's worth looking around with Black Friday coming. Balsam Hill are most peoples go to luxury trees but high street stores like Next and Marks and Spencer can be good too

AwkwardPaws27 · 14/11/2021 11:04

Balsamic Hill is out of budget even with their 40% off sale, but good shout on M&S!
Their 7ft Pre-lit Noble Christmas Tree looks promising, & the reviews (although only 7 of them) are good & consistent.

Oh dear. The M&S one was sooo wide at the base, and when I put it together all the wires were tangled round the branches and a total mess. It looked too big for the space & the pre-lit wires looked a mess (I, somewhat naively, thought they run along the branches, not a mess of tangled wires sticking up all over the place).
I'm taking it back tomorrow and have ordered a slimline tree from Charles Bentley instead, with separate lights so I can control where the wires go!

My sister and sister in law both have beautiful faux trees . Both bought them from independent garden centres .

We've been to a couple - either v expensive (£250+, out of budget) or in budget but very plastic-y looking unfortunately.

Next? Mine comes from Next, but it's about 10 years old.

John Lewis?

We are also in the market for an artificial tree, haven't measured the space properly but key will be slim at the base - we have reasonably high ceilings but limited floor space. Normally we get a real tree but it's often hard to get a shape that works. Need to get organised now!

I've had 2 trees from House if Fraser now, the first one lasted almost 20 years and I bought the latest one last year. Very happy with both and there was a massive discount on it last year. Let me see if I can find a link.

Costco do some great ones OP you can order online. The pre-lit ones are gorgeous.

Piggyk2 · 18/11/2021 06:17

We got this in 6ft 2 years ago from B&q. They also do a 7ft (see link). Absolutely love our tree www.diy.com/departments/7-5ft-thetford-natural-looking-artificial-christmas-tree/3663602538721_BQ.prd

Gohugatree · 18/11/2021 06:33

Our local garden centre had some beautiful ones - very similar to our balsam hill and considerably cheaper, and you get to see them up.

I was a bit disappointed with the balsam hill one we bought tbh - it was a bit of a rush purchase in the week before Christmas last year as previous tree came out of storage smelling damp and musty.

I bought a 7ft one from Next last year. It is not pre-lit but very full and realistic looking. We are very happy with it and it was just under £100 then

Stormystar · 18/11/2021 07:10

I was hoping to buy one in the January sale, but didn’t find one that was in stock I liked. Been looking for the last few weeks, and all the nice ones are ££££ but last night I found one in stock in Argos, 6ft pre lit, but I’m sure they do 7ft too. Pictures look great and good reviews, picking it up tomorrow so 🤞 . £60 for 6ft.

yma123 · 18/11/2021 07:33

White stores do really nice realistic looking Christmas trees in a range of sizes and you can chose whether you want it pre-lit or not Smile

I'll update when the Charles Bentley one arrives & let you know if its any good - it's a slimline one so might suit you too

@AwkwardPaws27 - where you happy with the tree? I’m currently looking at buying it - as about the only slim line half decent 7ft tree I can find.

AwkwardPaws27 · 09/12/2021 13:13

Yeah really pleased - it's slim without being pencil thin.

Excuse the decorations starting halfway up - we have a puppy so keeping them above nose height 😂

Thanks Awkardspaws- it looks a good shape. I’ve went ahead and bought it so hopefully it arrives soon.
Hope the puppy’s not chewing everything :-)
