DH has just told me he's bought whopping 24ft tree from the US. We are in the Middle East and have a big double height hall but what on earth will I do with it for the other 11months of the year ?

@DappyApple no loads more than that I would estimate.....the tree will be humongous around the bottom. (Goes off to Google how many lights for a 24ft tree....)

We've had an artificial take apart tree now for many years. It's branches can all be removed from the trunk and squashed up then tied with crepe bandage....but it always manages to lose lots of needles. So much so that some branches are bare. Last year we found 'spruce sprigs' which we attach to the bare branches with cable ties...Ah....poor tree. It still fits into the box so storage is easy under the stairs with all the other Christmas stuff.
With regard to number of lights 100 per foot of tree is recommended!!

It comes with wired in lights and apparently is a ring tree that each layer stacks onto a telescopic pole that screws into a base . I don't think its going to be a bung in the cupboard job unfortunately. Will post a pic when it arrives.

We've got a 6ft balsam hill one that does not pack down well and is in a huge bag in the garage... I couldn't imagine putting in the loft
