I don't normally read romance novels but every December I read Trisha Ashley - Twelve Days of Christmas. It has romance, cooking and housework :) and somehow motivates me to the later two. Does anyone else have any must-read Christmas books?

Although "twee" books aren't usually my thing, in November/December i do usually get a couple of Christmas feel good books in my Kindle. I have read things like Christmas at the comfort food cafe, A Ration Book Christmas, the Nadine Dorries one about the angels of lovely lane, can't remember the full name. Reminds me I haven't looked at anything for this year yet. I,ll have to get searching for Ines I haven't had yet!

Think the Nadine Dorries one is called Snow Angels

The Hogfather by Terry Pratchett
A Killer in Winter by Susanna Gregory
Whiteout by Ken Follet
An English Christmas by John Julius Norwich
A Child’s Christmas in Wales by Dylan Thomas
Monk’s Hood by Ellis Peters
The Greatest Gift by Philip Van Doren Stern
Skipping Christmas by John Grisham

A genre for everyone here…

Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher

My Christmas reads:

Wings over Witchend-Malcolm Saville
The Dark is Rising-Susan Cooper
The Box of Delights-John Masefield
Storm Ahead-Monica Edwards (not much Christmas in there but the last bit does it for me)
Winter Holiday-Arthur Ransome
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe-C S Lewis
Jo of the Chalet School-Elinor Brent-Dyer

And The Rat-a-Tat Mystery-Enid Blyton (nearly forgot that)

I do normally read romance, all of Trisha Ashley's in fact, would recommend Sarah Morgan's Christmas books also for festive romance.

Lanterns in the snow by Susan Hill
Village Christmas by Laurie Lee

I usually just browse the kindle daily deal and pick up something for 99p. But I love a twee, predictable Christmas book. Basically a Hallmark movie in book form. Nothing that I reread each year though.

Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher
I also recommend Winter Solstice. It’s a lovely November/December read.

Not the kind of read you're talking about but A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote is absolutely beautiful. Our elderly cat peed all over the illustrated hardback inscribed to me by my aunt so now I read it online but looking forward to getting DD her own copy (when she's old enough to appreciate it)

VittysCardigan · 12/11/2021 09:04

I've read The 12 days of Christmas a fair few times as well.
The night before Christmas by Scarlet Bailley

languagelover96 · 12/11/2021 09:04

Falling for Christmas by Debbie Macrombe

Not exactly the same, but I always get out The Church Mice at Christmas even though my dd is grown up. TBH it's aimed as much as adults as children, I love the detailed pictures and the visual jokes. Rumer Godden's The Story of Holly and Ivy is another children's book I love to read at Christmas
I discovered Catherine Fox's Lindchester Chronicles this year, and I think they'll also be added to my cosy December re-reads (they follow the year in the life of a Cathedral & it's clergy/other people, so Christmas obviously features, but also the CofE theme feels appropriate).

Sheila O'Flanagan's A Season to remember is on my annual reading list.

And is currently a 99p kindle book under its new name.
