I’m looking an early present for someone that will be away over Christmas. Needs to be posted or delivered.
Early 70’s, rich, has everything but they like “nice” food.
They have been quite ill and don’t drink (ex alcoholic) so nothing alcohol related.Which would have been first choice.
More of a thanks for their help over the year than friend or family.
Any suggestions?

M&S have a selection on their website, including a letterbox afternoon tea for £15 plus p&p, or letterbox brownies

Lightisnotwhite · 11/11/2021 18:46

Thank you! I only saw Christmas gifts when I had a look so that’s a real find.
I think she is a savour rather than sweet person but I already know someone else you’d appreciate that. Brilliant.

This stuff is divine in scrambled eggs or cheesy sauces or drizzled on mozzarella with good balsamic

I usually put together a hamper myself as it is better value, for £20 you should be able to get an assortment e.g.

  • bar excellent choc
  • tea bags/ coffee
  • flavoured oil or nice vinegar
  • biscuits
  • jarred fruit e.g. cherries in kirsch

Or send a very nice piece of top quality cheese with assorted crackers.

Or one big cake is surely always appreciated!

Fortnum and Mason do lovely jams and biscuits. Or you can get a little pot of their sea salt - and including delivery, it would be about £20 - but it comes in a F&M box, and you can put a gift card in.

I send stuff from there to quite a lot of my Christmas list.

Or Jolly’s of Orkney will deliver nice Orkney cheese, or smoked salmon flavoured with Highland Park whisky. Grimbister cheese is really nice.

Lightisnotwhite · 11/11/2021 20:00

@rrhuth I would normally but I don’t have the time and after I’ve faffed around finding a nice box the right size and paid for delivery it’s just as well to order it now and it’ll be there next week.

Will have a look at the other suggestions. They sound exactly like the sort of thing.

In the circumstances, OP, remember to avoid foods with alcohol as an ingredient.

DahliaMacNamara · 11/11/2021 20:22

www.brodies1867.co.uk/ These usually deliver within a few days. Obviously not the alcoholic chocolates, but the fruit ones and the fancy teas and coffees look really nice.

NeverEndingFireworks · 11/11/2021 20:43

smoked salmon.

My friend's uncle overseas always sent a huge one to their family and it was much anticipated.

The one I get is infused with booze (hic) they do a non alcoholic version (but it might not be sensitive to use a company called The Pished Fish 😏

This one looks good though

I started my own business in lockdown doing something like this. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say so will leave it here for Mumsnet to delete this post or let me know!

LanaDelBoy · 12/11/2021 00:31

Have you looked at the SousChef website?
I haven't tried them but I'm always getting ads for Tastesmiths sauces. Look nice...

Do lovely sets of mini marinades etc if she likes Indian

SnoopsCaliforniaRoll · 12/11/2021 03:39

What a lovely gift idea. I would go for:

H Foreman (Foreman and Field) gift hamper for a luxurious treat of smoked salmon (or one of their other gift bundles);

Monmouth or H. R. Higgins coffee or tea (and maybe some lovely truffles) and potentially a subscription service to accompany.

Daylesford Organic hamper or your own selection of their tasty and award-winning items.

If they enjoy cooking, perhaps a cookery book subscription for a sample of months eg Beautiful Books, Willoughby Book Club.

The Lancashire Smokehouse at Glasson Dock has a variety of gift boxes that can be posted. I've only bought directly from the shop, but their products are delicious. Or Betty's for a sweet tooth.

jocktamsonsbairn · 12/11/2021 19:33

If they like fresh seafood then this place is the answer to your prayers!! Also do amazing Scottish meat products.
I have to say the Gigha smoked halibut is utterly delicious and probably one of my favourites!
