Deliveries!

How do people get deliveries without the kids seeing what they are? I ordered some stuff for dd and it came today I was hoping it would come when she was at school but it didn’t 😐 was pretty difficult keeping her away from the door, what do others do!?

Just say you’re taking in a parcel for next door as they’re not in.

Hetyanni · 10/11/2021 21:06

I keep mine away from the door with one simple rule. You see it; I return it. 🤣

TurnUpTurnip · 10/11/2021 21:13

I can try the neighbour thing but they know I don’t accept neighbours parcels haven’t in years, ours never collect so I had to stop taking them in. 😬 so they might be suspicious of that!

Opt for click and collect?

TurnUpTurnip · 11/11/2021 08:23

Difficult as I don’t drive

Do you mean stuff comes not in boxes and they can see? Amazon started doing this with toys with just a label on. Need a bin bag by the door to disguise things. Some shops let you choose time for delivery would that help? Failing that it’s presents for other people?

Franticbutterfly · 11/11/2021 08:43

I open the box then tape it back up. I also keep large boxes in the run up to Xmas from things I've bought, wrap the gifts and put in the large box and seal it and leave it in plain sight. I also put things on top of kitchen cupboards, they must see it but they've never mentioned it. Everything is in boxes/bags when it's up there.

Ragwort · 11/11/2021 08:56

How old is the DC ? If she's old enough to 'know' that you don't take in parcels for neighbours then surely she's old enough to understand that it might be for someone else (a relative?), something you've ordered for yourself, a boring household item etc. Or just say 'I am taking this in for a friend' ... surely you don't have to go into details about every delivery or maybe I was just lucky as my DS would have absolutely no interest in deliveries arriving,

TurnUpTurnip · 11/11/2021 10:21

In theory yes but I think they are expecting presents hence the hovering around, various ages 10 down to 4 but my oldest has autism so she doesn’t really understand that she can’t look or won’t listen but she knows about the neighbours, some good ideas to try, yes most comes in covered boxes but I had a few that haven’t

I always used to say, “Oh it’s just a parcel from dad’s work.” DH does get a lot of parcels from work DS used to get really annoyed at the amount of parcels DH’s work sent him in the run up to Christmas 😂.

2020isnotbehaving · 11/11/2021 15:18

You can always change the name you are sending them to different from billing name and address. Oh dear look Fred Smith who lived here before us has another parcel I need forward on Grin

wertheppl · 11/11/2021 15:23

Well most of the time it's in a box and I don't open it infront of them. However Amazon can be known for just sticking a label of the actual box 🙈 last yr I purposely ordered from smyths instead least it was boxed up from them at same price.

This time I had to use the tracking to see where they were and then stalk the front window, tell dh to take her upstairs and then grab it from delivery driver chuck a dressing gown over it and hide until I cld get it in the loft. If she had seen driver with a huge Barbie box and something that she's asked for it might have been game over.

She's only 4 so I imagine it only gets harder! If she had seen it I wld have told her it was for her cousins Xmas lol.

mamatoTails · 11/11/2021 15:34

I say everything comes to me and the elf will then collect everything from me and take to the North Pole.
Father Christmas then decides whether it gets delivered.

viques · 11/11/2021 15:46

Tell her her presents will come in teeny tiny boxes or small squashy envelopes this year so anything that needs to have the door opened to be delivered is nothing to do with her.

I am also saying that the parcels are dh's work stuff.

Backatsquareone · 11/11/2021 18:22

My six year old is always desperate to know what’s in every delivery. So I just say grandad had to get something delivered here so we can’t open it

Rememberallball · 12/11/2021 07:09

Amazon do tend now to say the item will be easily identifiable on delivery (ie they just stick the delivery label to the box) and you can often hoot to have them delivered in Amazon packaging just by clicking a tick box - useful if you don’t want to try and scrape impossibly sticky labels off the front of a present!!
Alternatively, ask a friend or neighbour if you can have them delivered to their house and you offer to do the same for them!!

Thankfully, at the moment, my kids are still young enough not to understand Christmas or really have a clue what presents are all about so I can get stuff delivered and ‘hidden’ in plain sight!!

whosaidtha · 12/11/2021 07:22

Why does it matter as long as they don't see what it is or where you hide it? Surely they know you're buying Christmas presents this time of year.

yourfavouritemuggle · 12/11/2021 08:00

I have them delivered to my parents or PIL and then ask them to keep it until its safe to bring home, or if it's too big I ask them to keep it in their garage/loft until Christmas Eve. A couple of times I've had things from Amazon that haven't come boxed, so I have to make excuses that it's for someone's birthday or it's been delivered to the wrong address. X

MrsLargeEmbodied · 12/11/2021 08:01

can you tick the Gift section?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 12/11/2021 08:01

or just tell them it is not their business

TurnUpTurnip · 12/11/2021 08:11

I’m talking about ones that turn up unboxed, unfortunately not everything turns up with an outer box, I’ve even bought toys from amazon that haven’t although that’s uncommon but not everything has come in a plain box. It seems I’m not the only one, even Argos it usually is in a bag but sometimes it isn’t.

OP posts:
Laiste · 12/11/2021 08:16

I don't know if this would work for you but how about putting a note near the bell to say Deliveries - if you are delivering an unboxed item please use this bin bag to put it in before ringing the bell. XMAS + NOSY KIDS. Thanks :)

and provide a bin bag taped with a little bit of tape on the door frame or trapped in the letter box or something similar. You can replace the bag once the item is hidden away.

OhGiveUp · 12/11/2021 08:21

If it's not too large and you've ordered from Amazon, you could use Amazon locker and collect it when they're at school.
Or leave instructions when at the checkout to leave in porch, garden shed etc.
You could tell them it's a delivery for a family member.

NowEvenBetter · 12/11/2021 08:44

Tell them that Santa buys one present per kid, and anything they see arriving may or may not be presents, but it’s none of their business.
