Some parents are more dedicated than others.

You will be stuck by the door behind a very tall father. They will all be smug in the front row Your DC will think you weren't there and will be scarred for life

probably some won't find it worthwhile to go home and then comeback within the time.
It's also a good excuse for a sit-down and a natter

Can just imagine the scramble for the front row.

Hulababy · 13/12/2007 09:02

What time is it? We were there just over 30 min early as we drop dd off at about 8.30 and it started at 9.15 would be waste of time for us to in good and back again esp in rush hour. We sat and chatted to friends. I actuallyz was not staying to watch, just dh as i say it day before - i got there about 25 min early so could park. I was staying to baby sit for friends baby.

SheherazadetheSwedishjulbok · 13/12/2007 09:02

it is the herd mentality. one alpha parent decides to wait and then the others get fretful and have to wait too.

DumbledoreWithBoughsOfHolly · 13/12/2007 09:03

I was amazed the other day. Got to the hall 20 minutes early expecting to find only the back seats free, and got a front row seat, coincidentally, right next to where my son ended up sitting.

He will never be able to claim I was not there for his first nativity.

DumbledoreWithBoughsOfHolly · 13/12/2007 09:04

Oh but one hour early is too early, unless, like Hulababy, you have friends to talk to.

What really annoys me is the people (read Dads) who insist on standing up in front of you to film it

Hulababy · 13/12/2007 09:06

Ah 10.15 too early to be there now. We'd have good to local coffee sims for breakfast instead for a chat.

saltirehangingonachristmastree · 13/12/2007 09:06

Sound slike our school. They sent a note home saying that for the evening show, the children hadn't to be at the school any sooner than 6.15. DH went for a loaf at 5.30 and said there was parents queing then.

AwayInAMunker · 13/12/2007 09:08

I'd have waited. With a book.

oddometer · 13/12/2007 09:09

i was late for ours and consequently was at the back.
my sheep in nursery class still found me and defected from cast to audience (to much ahhhhh-ing from audience tween he and i)

my angel in recept was a bit out of sight tho. and stupid camera jammed right at moment he did funny thing in finale song. did get a film of him resolutely not doing the 'reach for the stars' dance, but twirling halo and pouting instead.

ahhhhhhh

What you have to do is arrive a minute before it starts and smugly sit in the back row. I know because I did this through necessity at ds1's first one, and it was the best place BY FAR to sit - nobody else could see anything (except the front row who all needed the loo by this point, they'd been sat there so long ) - because if you're in the back row you can stand up, stand on your chair, stand in the aisle etc. See everything without having to peer round someone else's 'big hair'.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 13/12/2007 09:25

We get tickets and ours aren't even next to each other, let alone where we can see our child...
so no hogging the front row.

I have come home because it is an hour and it is cold.
What is your child, Cod?

Mine is a silent donkey. (apparently)

ggirlsbells · 13/12/2007 09:25

yes it is utterly sad

there was one mother who was ALWAYS in the front row in all things to do with the school when my dd was young.

was standing joke....were you sitting close to Barbara? oh well done you must've been early!

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 13/12/2007 09:28

Actually I am a wee bit scared that ex might just have a moment of guilt and turn up, after my off the cuff visit to his house yesterday...
he is a miserable git if he doesn't, but my mother might lamp him if he does.

Oh the joys of the season
