I'm looking for recommendations for a set of plastic/rubber toy animals for DD3. planning on starting to collect some schleich ones but was hoping to get her a wee set of some for Christmas that don't cost an arm and a leg. Have been looking on Amazon but the reviews vary wildly. Has anyone bought a set (probably around £20) that they'd recommend?

I'd really just stick with the schleich ones.

You can buy second hand bundles online, there is a special Facebook group too. They look almost new as they handle play very well and are good quality.

The Lanka kade ones are really lovely. They sell well in bundles after you are done with them too. Not plastic though... They are wooden.

Playmobile animals are good and come in little packs.

My DC loved the Fisher Price Noah's Ark toy at that age.

Playmobil animals are good but not sure they're any cheaper.

I would probably get a smaller bunch of schleich rather than a big bunch of crummy ones that will break.

Schleich are worth the money!

BadgerFace · 06/11/2021 19:01

If she’s a bit young for Schleich then Happyland, Fisher Price and Playmobil 123 are all great for slightly younger children.

Teaandakitkat · 06/11/2021 19:05

Agree, Schleich are worth the money. The detail is better, the quality is better, they feel more robust. Don't buy cheap ones

GoingForAWalk · 06/11/2021 21:49

Try a couple of Schleich to gauge interest she might not like them and prefer playmobile or ELC type of toys

GoingForAWalk · 06/11/2021 21:53

Schleich do Advent Calendars for £24 as do play mobile so buy both and see which she prefers

SpookyPumpkinPants · 06/11/2021 21:54

Better to buy Schleich second hand than cheaper ones new. Give them a long bath in miltons and a giid scrub & they'll be fine. OR take her into a shop and see which animals she gravitates you & just buy a few new ones.

I LOVE Happyland. I bought loads off of Ebay in the day... their animals aren't exactly 'realistic', but they are fine for preschoolers.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 06/11/2021 22:07

We have a lot of Schleich but also Papo and Animal planet. I think the Papo and Animal planet are cheaper. My eldest is 6 and they still gets loads of play. Amazon often have them all reduced. I know I got a Schleich dinosaur, little unicorn and two Papo animals for around £20 recently.

Tender leaf toys also have some lovely wooden animals which are around £3 to £4.50 each. I prefer them to Lanka Kade as they aren't as chunky.

Thank you everyone. Lots to look at and think about. She's got loads of happyland so we're good there. I think I'll follow the advice of the many and just buy a couple of schleich and see how we go.

Holztiger and Lanke Kade are lovely, they are wooden but really nice quality with good resale value
