I was thrilled to hear she had been picked, as she was so keen to do it. She's been practising her lines and really quite relaxed about it all.

But last night she was a bit stressed and said that she had practised in front of the school at assembly yesterday morning and was asked to slow down a bit (fair enough), and afterwards her teacher said to her 'You must remember to speak loudly and clearly and not too fast otherwise Mr X (the head teacher) will be cross with you' . I know this is only coming from her, I haven't spoken to her teacher so it may be exaggerated, although I doubt it as she isn't that sort of kid.

I'm not sure I want her to do it now, surely it is supposed to be fun, she's 6 years old fgs.

Do you think the teacher may have said 'make sure you speak loudly/clearly etc so Mr X can hear you' -- and she slightly misremembered it? Seems much more likely somehow.

If you are both anxious, why not talk to her teacher and clear it up?

sounds like what the teacher meant to say came out a bit wrong and actually ended up sounding a little harsh for a 6 year old! have you spoken to her to see how she feels about the teachers comments? if it makes her feel better perhaps suggest reading it to you/family and then let her know she's doing a fabulous job. you're right though, it should be fun! you could always try another tactic where she can 'show the teacher' how well she can read it! then instead of it sounding like it's not good enough and all she has to do is improve she can have fun working on it with you. and she'll feel fabulous when the teacher says thats perfect! hope this helps, x
