Christmas wrapping ideas

Hi!

Today Ive been thinking about the wrapping we'll all be doing over the coming weeks, some of the gifts I need to wrap will be quite obvious from the shape of them, so I'm looking for ideas to disguise gifts.

Years ago I worked with an older lady and she always did this, she would use the plastic Ferreo Rocher containers and put perfume or other small gifts in them, which I thought was a fab idea.

In the past I've wrapped a whole load of presents individually and then put them in a big box and wrapped that too, which the kids loved.

This year I've got an Apple Watch to try and disguise and a bottle of some kind of expensive hair product that I thought I could try and put inside a kitchen roll tube - or something along those lines.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I love to surprise people at Christmas.

Or if anyone has any photos of parents they've creatively wrapped over the years I'd love to see them Smile

The didn't stay still long enough for me to wrap them.

I've used a lot of Amazon boxes to put small things in. Some things, like money, I've attached to joke gifts like jars of Nutella or Lotus biscuits.

haggisaggis · 03/11/2021 15:20

I've done small things inside bigger boxes. Also 'hid' a bike by putting the bike in the shed then bought a small lego figure on a bike and stuck a note on the back of the figure saying "look in the shed". Then wrapped the wee lego box instead. That went down well!
When I gave dh a multigym it was obviously too big to wrap so bought blow up dumbbells, attached a similar note and wrapped them!

I've sometimes hidden small gifts inside bigger slightly jokey and/or related verisons.

e.g. ticket to the Chelsea Flower Show inside a boxed amarylis. An ipod (many years ago!) inside a shoe box filled with chocolates like Celebrations so it has to be 'dug' out.

YouTube has lots of brilliant, easy to follow ideas.

I save delivery boxes to disguise presents and this year rather than wrapping paper I’m going to make and use fabric drawstring bags for wrapping, they can then be used again and again.

EllieQuinn · 04/11/2021 22:40

I love doing this too! Some fun things I’ve done are:
New x-box game disc hidden inside dvd case for terrible film
A big box with a helium balloon inside (probably best for smaller kids)
Something squishy concealing something unmistakable like a book or a box of something wrapped inside a blanket etc

We got DS an Apple Watch last year and wrapped it inside a new gym T-shirt.

elQuintoConyo · 05/11/2021 19:36

Put gift in a ziplock bag and inflate it. It'll have an intriguingly rattle but be an odd shape.

I've used cleaned put pringles tubes, then wrapped them.

I still use the giant gold Ferrero Rocher plastic balls as a pp mentioned upthread, (from their Easter 'eggs'), they've had child's new swimming trunks in, airpods, jewellery etc. They're a nice festive colour.

Loo roll tubes that have been pinched at each end to close, then wrapped for small things.

Layer of bubble wrap.

I've just seen some gift bags in the shape of Christmas stockings on Etsy that are reusable so would be a gift within a gift. I love them. The same seller has reusable gift bags too that look really cool.

Why have I battled every year with stupid shaped presents and NEVER thought to put them in something else 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

Welcometothejingles · 06/11/2021 10:14

I start saving delivery and shoe boxes to wrap things inside from Sept. I've done a treasure hunt with clues round the house once. That was fun and appreciated but lots of hard work.

lifeinlimbo2020 · 06/11/2021 10:58

One wrapped things in cereal boxes and folded things into clothes before to disguise them 👍

lifeinlimbo2020 · 06/11/2021 10:58

I've..... not one

MojoJojo71 · 06/11/2021 11:03

DS asked for money once so I wrapped £10 notes around bags of haribo with elastic bands and put them in a piñata

CamdenLurker · 06/11/2021 19:51

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

I've got a stash of Amazon boxes that I'm going to use, I do like the idea of the reusable fabric bags, dd1 could make these for me.

Love the idea of inflating a ziplock bag, all my children are teens and older so this would be a great option.

A few years ago I picked up every flavour of Twin Peaks chocolate bar (Poundlands own version of Toblerone) and put them inside wrapping paper tubes, dd was desperate to know what was inside Grin

Another great suggestion is to wrap inside clothing, this is probably what I'll do with the Apple Watch. Also really like the idea to bury something in with sweets or chocolates.

Instead of making her own fabric bags, a friend bought some cheap Christmas themed cushion covers in a sale, and puts unusual shaped gifts in those, padded out with crumpled up recycled paper like newspaper.

DockOTheBay · 07/11/2021 02:20

DVD cases are good for tickets rather than putting them in an envelope

VienneseWhirligig · 07/11/2021 06:55

I've used poster tubes for tickets and things before, I also bought a bottle of nice wine for my mum last year and some socks, and decided to combine them by making a boot shape with the socks (roll one up the bottle halfway, then stuff the other one in the foot bit of the sock to full it out. It looked really good!

cowburp · 07/11/2021 06:57

Genius ideas!

Rawmum30 · 07/11/2021 08:22

Hi OP, I too love disguising gifts. If you do decide to wrap the Apple Watch inside clothing, would you consider buying a novelty t-shirt with an comical image of an apple on it? It would be a fun connection to the watch, as well as acting as a disguise.
Or, you could choose a huge box, then put loads of fun size apples 🍏 🍎 in there, and hide the watch apple box at the bottom or in amongst the mini apples.
You’d need to leave this wrapping till late though coz of keeping the apples fresh.
From this thread, I see I’m not the only nutty person to enjoy creating intrigue!
