He's dp's best drinking buddy and dd2's godfather and we always buy him a christmas prezzie. We always have to get it early because he goes to his sister's over the entire holiday.

This year I am completely stuck.

Any ideas?

A twenty odd single dolly bird

NotQuiteCockney · 12/12/2007 07:53

Booze is always safe.

Or a nicely framed pic of DD2?

FrannyandZooey · 12/12/2007 08:04

magazine subscription - what's that good website for offers? Magsite, I think

SantaBeClausImWorthIt · 12/12/2007 08:10

How much do you want to spend?

And what are his interests?

DeePancrisPaneven · 12/12/2007 08:11

Depends on what he likes, innit? and what you wish to spend??

and 50 is still young....and the fact he is single isn't really a determining factor here, is it??

What does he talk to dp about whilst drinking - dp should be able to come up with something surely??

AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 12/12/2007 08:13

Does he have any hobbies?
Cooking? Football? Fishing?
If not then booze or something booze related - glasses?

mylittleponey · 12/12/2007 08:19

a remote control helicopter

SquonkaClaus · 12/12/2007 08:27

what he talks about is his lack of a 20year old dolly bird

The fact that he is single matters, because getting a girly present to him as part of a couple is not appropriate.

I like the magazine subscription - I'll check with dp whether there are any that he thinks will be suitable.

Booze related no good as he only drinks when in the pub and he has his own glass there (a previous year's present)

thanks for everyone's ideas so far

ok. Something for his home. A silk tie, as expensive as you think right. A cd compilation of what he likes. Aftershave is ALWAYS appreciated. An accessory for something he already has >. Some clothe item if he is at all sporty. Some expensive moisuriser, Roc or Clarins pour homme....

SquonkaClaus · 12/12/2007 08:37

is aftershave really always appreciated? Any type? I presume not Hai Karate?

OP posts:
DeePandcrisPandeven · 12/12/2007 08:39

it is ALWAYS.

Depnds on him, but Hugo Boss, Ck , some Safari I have often gets 'noticed'. Def. aftershave if he isn't a moisturising man.

SquonkaClaus · 12/12/2007 08:41

I can't imagine that he would be a moisturising man - he's a very old fiftyish bloke iykwim.

If you're sure that it won't seem like a cop out present, I think maybe aftershave is the way to go.

Thank you.

OP posts:
DeePandcrisPandeven · 12/12/2007 08:44

Nope. If he is the 'sort' you describe, he will appreciate NOT having to go to the clinical and intimidating arena of a scent counter with all those gorge babes secretly passing judgement on him. Which they won't be.

good luck.

SquonkaClaus · 12/12/2007 08:47

that's him sorted then.

Thanks.

(Think I'll go with the Safari - I'm sure he will appreciate being noticed )

DeePandcrisPandeven · 12/12/2007 08:55

and tell him if he is 50 and shaves he needs to moisurise!!!!!

SquonkaClaus · 12/12/2007 08:57

hmmm....

I'll leave that one to dp

OP posts:
SquonkaClaus · 12/12/2007 08:59

okay, one last question (hopefully)

how's this?

is it a cop out or does it fulfill the aftershave/moisturiser criteria?

OP posts:
DeePandcrisPandeven · 12/12/2007 17:35

Been at work!!

well, for me, the manl bag would appear as a bit of a general cop out...and you don't know what's the quality of the items. It appears a bit like a "teenagers first steps into a man's world....." IF you don't mind me saying??

the same cost will get a bottle of Safari..i'd stick with that. IMHO

SquonkaClaus · 12/12/2007 17:37

feck!

I bought it.

I suppose when it comes if it looks a bit teenagerish, I could give it to someone else and get him the safari as planned.

bugger.

DeePandcrisPandeven · 12/12/2007 17:41

Woops! Sorry.....he may not be that sensitive about it. I could just be being a picky ponce........

SquonkaClaus · 12/12/2007 17:42

I'll let you know when it arrives.

ponce? you?

never!

Steptoe and son christmas specials on DVD

8.00 play.com

Well my dad likes them

zippitippitoes · 12/12/2007 17:47

better a teenager than an old codger..well anyone thinking of buyin 4 me better think that way

DeePandcrisPandeven · 12/12/2007 17:51

OR..if he DOES have an i-pod, you can get a wireless transmitter that clips onto said pod and means you can play your tunes through your car speakers.

Costs about £25 - from a co. called "Griffin" - sell them in Tesco. Buy one of these and the giver will be adored for ever!!

zippitippitoes · 12/12/2007 17:53

i want one of those ...when i get the ipod i was promised for my birthday which i better get for crimbo or else i shall be even more upset
