You could always fill up the tree with baubles. Candy canes would look nice too. Also a elf or tree fairy thingy might look cool. You could even use those colored lights. Have a look online and in the shops in order to see what you can find to buy etc.

What is your colour scheme?

I add some sparkly twigs, some normal baubles and some other ornaments, different textures and materials add interest.

They are fantastic trees!!
Could you have look in your local garden centre, ours do sections for different colours and lovely traditional wooden ones. I got some more to add to ours last week. Or a local Christmas market if yours is on this year xx

This year I’m doing gold and white on our main tree. I’m going to get a couple of packs of these stars this year. See-through baubles like these look really lovely when the twinkly lights shine thorough them and I’ve got some angel wings and white swans from a previous year.

I am changing mine this year, as I have a few sea creatures and silver robots etc already, so I got some silver, blue and turquoise baubles, a few glass and white icicles, and a white snowflake star, for mine. As a change from mostly red, green and gold that I have used the past few years. (I got my new ones in both Brown Thomas (expensive Irish department store) and Ikea).

John Lewis always has beautiful looking decorations, with a few different themes and lots of different colour schemes.

And Ikea does have a few different themes as well which are nice this year (red/green/gold; blues/silver; red/white/natural).

Cox & Cox sell dreamy baubles, they are pricey though!

I always love a garden centre trip this time of year too, they always have the nicest decs but again, pricey.

For cheaper decs, The Range is good.

If your wanting some personalised decorations I can highly recommend the Rudolph’s from this small business. I’ve brought several over the years for my tree & to gift.

www.christmastimeuk.com

They have everything christmas related & more, it's easy to get carried away.

I'd sign up to their newsletter as they often have discount codes. I can't remember if they have a black friday sale.

Glass baubles are so much nicer than plastic, I've got loads from charity shops in the past so that might be worth a go for you. Otherwise for new, Flying Tiger is good for affordable, kitsch, glass baubles from £2-£4. Poundland often have a few too. If you don't mind spending a bit more then John Lewis or TK Maxx or Paperchase are good, but they're more like £4-£8 each.

Tipperary Crystal and Newbridge Silverware have fabulous decorations. I've collected a good few in recent years. Both in Ireland but you can order online.

I got a beautiful tree a few years back and intentionally bought a decent one as I read that it needs to list for 10 Christmases to be better for the environment than a real/fresh tree. One id got the beautiful tree I decided to go more environmentally friendly with my decorations as well. I browse eBay all year round for vintage glass baubles and I can honestly say that no modern plastic can shine like glass can. Over the last 5 years I've slowly edged out the old plastic decorations and replaced them with a mix of vintage and modern glass.

My kids especially love the new glass baubles. My tree has a rotating base and so is fully decked out all the way around. The baubles are ash different shapes and designs and all have nicknames and so my kids and family kids play "I spy" where one of them chooses a decorating and then it's a race to who finds it first. We've got all sorts, Gisela Graham does some stunners !

I agree with lots of different textures and include different styles of tree pick such as snowy branches, clusters of acorns, frosted or plain berries in red or white, pine cones etc, together with jewelled garlands that sparkle beautifully and opulent velvet ribbon.

DappyApple · 04/11/2021 16:26

Depends what look you are going for, whether you are doing a theme/ colour scheme and what your budget is.
But tbh it’s taken me years to collect the decorations I have today. Could get expensive if buying it all in one go.

I agree glass baubles do really reflect the light they are so pretty. But I also have loads of bog standard baubles, like you get in multipacks for filling the tree but am always on the look out for the more unique individual baubles and decorations. If I see something nice I’ll buy it.

I’ve picked them up from all over, B&M, Next, Tk max, The Range, charity shops, EBay supermarkets, garden centres, markets, The pound shop….in fact anywhere that sells Christmas. If it matches the tree I’ll buy it.

But I won’t get something mega expensive to hang, as I have cats who like to shimmy up the tree so don’t want to risk breakages!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 04/11/2021 18:14

I love buying tree decorations! I keep an eye out for them all the time - on holiday, garden centres, independent shops etc. But also John Lewis and other places.

I like a mix of textures and styles too - I favour jewel tones and glass baubles interspersed with other types, so now have a fairly eclectic collection rather than a very strict colour scheme.

If I was starting from scratch I'd get a couple of boxes of 'filler' baubles in colours i liked then buy a few nicer individual baubles to display front and centre and build up a collection over the years. Gisela Graham does do some nice ones as mentioned by PP. Cox & Cox can be lovely, but I've found quality hit and miss.

And no tinsel. Not on my tree.

Just a word of warning... Balsam Hill is an international brand, and is selling their products to UK-based customers via their subsidiary in Dublin, Eire, using TV advertisements that refer potential customers to balsamhill.co.uk. The company's "legal team" claims that they have a subsidiary registered in Coleraine, Northern Ireland, but this is untrue and that issue is now being investigated by NI Trading Standards officers.

The net effect of them not having a UK-registered company is that UK purchasers have no consumer protection whatsoever, because the seller is not within the jurisdiction of any of the UK Courts. So, buyers cannot enforce their rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 if there are any problems with the purchased product.

I'm sure you are probably pleased with your new tree but we would never buy from this company because of the above.

New bridge silverware are beautiful. As are Belleek China and Waterford Crystal .
