Advent calendars for kids

I picked up a couple of bog standard advent calendars today, with chocolate in and my dd8 asked if she could have a toy one. I said no as I think it’ll just be full of plastic crap.

But now I’m wondering if there’s anything also out there for kids that’s consumable but not chocs?

Have you guys seen anything?

I buy a traditional picture one each year and put them all up in the snug. I love them.

We had a Harry Potter Lego one a few years ago and the contents are added to our permanent HP Lego display every December 1st so it was definitely worth it. This year, I have bought a jigsaw one which you can then turn into decorations. I don't mind the consumable ones if I get the use out of them in years to come.

We've had a Smiggle one and a tinc in the past and they were both disappointingly rubbish.

I made my ds a book version once.I bought a mix of books puzzle,factual,joke,fiction etc that he would love and a really decent fiction book to begin reading Christmas eve .
I wrapped them in colourful paper bags I'd bought from Amazon and simply wrote a number on front,piling them up in angled stack.I tried to do small to large so they looked a bit like a Christmas tree ,so they had some style.
It went down really well,kept him very busy well into the next year and some could be passed on later.It wasn't as expensive as you think as I looked for offers through The Book People and The works.
He still fondly remembers it and he's now 18Grin

I seen really cool wooden ones in Lidl yesterday shaped like a sled - less than £20 each. The little drawers are big enough for a chocolate and considering the Lindor ones DDs always opt for are £20 each it would be a saving …..

@RedLemon

I did an activity advent calendar for mine last year and they LOVED it!

It was a mild PITA to come up with stuff for it in the first place but once I’d thought of sufficient simple, fun things to do, I padded it out with one or two days of a sweet from our house fairies, or a new hair bobbin.

Activities included picnic under the Christmas tree instead of dinner, movie night, putting on cosy PJs and driving round town to see Christmas lights, dressing up as princesses for a fancy dinner (parents included), making popcorn strings to hang out for the birds, baking cookies for their friends, toasting marshmallows, walk in the dark with torches. Loads of inspiration online.

This sounds amazing!! Love it!

I've got my dd a Smiggle one this year. But she has mentioned that she wants a fidget toy one that she's seen in a shop somewhere.
