Christmas night away with kids?

Realise I'm probably a little late to the game with booking something BUT.... what kind of nights away that are Xmas themed would be good? I'm a single mum with 15, 13 and 8 year olds 😬 currently looking at legoland but the last time I went it was crap. 8 year old is ASD so hates people, teens currently hate life.

I’m also thinking about this too ( single mum 9 and 7 year old - 9 year old ADHD/anxiety and doesn’t like crowds inside).

Sorry no suggestions - I was half thinking of just going for a night in a city in a nice hotel but no other ideas so following ..

Flackattack · 27/10/2021 21:00

Might be a bit young for them? We loved it but took a 9 month old and 6 year old.
Alton towers?
Depends on your budget.
Premier inn and winter wonderland in London? Or other city break?
Panto?

Beakerandbungle · 27/10/2021 21:02

Where might be a bit young @Flackattack ( sorry I hope that doesn’t sound rude!)

Flackattack · 27/10/2021 21:11

Legoland - might be a bit young for a 13 and 15 year old - would say it tops out end of primary.

Centre parcs would be good for older but expensive and possibly booked up!

Bath with the Christmas markets - depending where you are located?

Birmingham and go to the snow dome?

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 27/10/2021 21:24

Chester?

Lanterns at Chester zoo should be good for all, Christmas markets and shopping at Cheshire oaks for the older two?

OfNick · 27/10/2021 21:25

Seems like Legoland may not be the best choice then! Will have a look at some of the other options suggested though. Thanks! Very difficult as they all like different things. Would love to do London but it terrifies me on my own!!

Thefuturestory · 27/10/2021 21:27

Hyde Park winter wonderland will probably be too busy for your 8 year old.

How about Hay on Wye Christmas events?

Would they like a pantomine?

To be honest the two older ones don't like much!! Just screens 🙄 Just looked and all I can see on any videos for events are happy families, think I might just book the cinema 😂

Harry Potter studios in Windsor?

namechangeforthispost123 · 27/10/2021 22:30

Celtic Manor? Nice, close and usually have a mixture of Christmas things going on? Or Birmingham?

MrsFin · 27/10/2021 22:31

Cardiff usually has a good Christmas market and a skating rink

MazzleDazzle · 27/10/2021 22:37

I’ve 3 kids (inc. grumpy teen & ASD) so I know how tough it is to please everyone. We recently went to a petting zoo - it was a big hit with everyone! There was an outdoor play area, and indoor soft play and lots of animals to feed. Anything like that near you?

Enough4me · 27/10/2021 22:41

Would your DC like to go away, or rather have friends around and money spent on trampoline Park or similar trip?

I sat this as I love going away, but my DC prefer friends and trips.

Thefuturestory · 27/10/2021 22:42

Celtic manor was good for ice skating and the tree and train in hotel lobby was lovely.

Sadiequeenofscots · 28/10/2021 00:50

We’ve booked a night away in our nearest big city and will do Christmas lights / market / rides (if on due to Covid), nice food, a nosy round the shops (if we can be bothered) for any last minute bits.

Very chilled out and low cost as we’ve booked a £35 premier inn family room!

goose1964 · 28/10/2021 19:58

Bath have cancelled their market but they're still going ahead with things like local stalls, Carol singing, ice rink etc. I second Cardiff Market it has a,more local feel.

Lovemusic33 · 29/10/2021 15:28

No market in Bath this year, Exeter have a market, we were there a couple days ago and they are setting up, looks like it’s going to be good, it’s next to the cathedral but I can imagine it will get quite busy. My DC’s both have ASD and always enjoy Longleat near Christmas, it does get busy but it’s pretty easy to keep out of people’s way as it’s pretty spread out.

MeredithMae · 29/10/2021 16:20

Deffo cheapest hotel you can find then an evening at Winter Wonderland in London!

Or Harry Potter studio tours?

Cornettoninja · 29/10/2021 16:25

I think London might be your best bet to cover all the age groups. We went to south bank (we were actually going to the sealife centre) one year and it was just beautiful.

I’ve seen adverts for a hidden cinema too which look great backyardcinema.co.uk/shows/winter-and-christmas/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwt-6LBhDlARIsAIPRQcKaLNxOhQ50dHSxiTsrl8yCsaJ6FsIx8z9hM8eNpoSFDARol2vh2JsaArADEALw_wcB

I think any city would have things going on to cover all bases though.
