Decent sized filler gifts to bulk up a small pile

Vanpod · 27/10/2021 18:36

Our piles will be small this year because the DC's main gifts are small yet pricey. Looking for ideas for inexpensive (but not total tat) things that come in bigger boxes or packaging to bulk up the piles.

Kids are DS 9, DD 7 and DD 4, we already have quite a few board games but are open to good suggestions Smile

To be honest, I wouldn't. Apart from the 4 year old perhaps, the kids are old enough to understand they if they ask for expensive tech then the pile will be smaller. Don't buy stuff just for the sake of it.

I keep empty larger boxes and fill with foodie/bath treats- bags of multipack crisps, biscuits, choc/sweets, bath bombs , hair products etc. Soon fills up

Suzi888 · 27/10/2021 18:52

Pyjamas, underwear, chocs, toiletries, books, dressing gown, slippers.

Leeds2 · 27/10/2021 18:56

Spacehopper.
Football.
Beanbag.
Series of books.
Water pistols.
Dressing up outfit.

mayblossominapril · 27/10/2021 18:59

I’ve got mine new bath towels

Cantstopthewaves · 27/10/2021 19:01

I'd buy things they're going to need anyway.
Things like
Large stationary sets of pens/pencils.
School bags
Trainers in next size up
New duvet sets
Lunch boxes/bags

Daisy829 · 27/10/2021 19:02

Canvases to colour in from hobbycraft they are pretty cheaply priced
Selection boxes
Fake oodies
New duvet cover (look at online home store or b&m for bargains)

Carboncheque · 27/10/2021 19:09

A box of some kind of crappy, sugar filled cereal they’re not allowed to have or Pop Tarts?
Flavoured popcorn?
Teddy bear fleece cushions for their beds?

shinynewapple21 · 27/10/2021 19:10

I tended to buy things like PJs, bedding, sweatshirts , lunch box stationery etc with DC's current favourite cartoon character, sports team etc so they were practical things needed anyway but seemed more of a gift because of the logo/branding .

noscoobydoodle · 27/10/2021 19:14

Dressing gowns, fluffy PJ's, cushion (I got personalised ones on a great offer from printerpix), Hobbycraft colour in igloo/house/shop for youngest, plush(giant or otherwise!), football/basketball/rugby ball, stomp rocket, jigsaws (Amazon had lots of ravensburger ones on offer), water bottles (chillys), cooperative game from peaceable Kingdom.

For your Ds9: table top football www.argos.co.uk/product/7474677?clickPR=plp:1:44 It was a big hit with my DS

Christmas1988 · 27/10/2021 19:16

Things they will need throughout the year to save you buying later,

Bubbly bath
Selection boxes/ sweets
Dressing gown in next size up
Summer pjs
Next size up trainers
Slippers next size up
New school bag for September
New packed lunch bag for September
Paint
Stationary

peboh · 27/10/2021 19:20

I wouldn't bother. These things just end up adding clutter to your home, without giving anything extra to the child really.
Why do you need to bulk up piles? Your children will learn the value of things as they get older with you not spending extra just for the sake of it.

choli · 27/10/2021 19:27

Surely it would be better not to encourage the expectation of a "pile" of gifts?

DiamondBright · 27/10/2021 19:30

They do need to learn that expensive presents mean fewer presents. I've got a teen who's asked for cash this year, it's tempting to still want to provide a pile of presents but I'm resisting, buying stuff for the sake of it is a waste of money and resources we're all going to have to stop.

Chakraleaf · 27/10/2021 20:37

I did mine a box last year of fave foods and snacks.

Vanpod · 27/10/2021 20:49

Lovely, thanks for all of the good suggestions Smile Great idea to use things I would be buying anyway, and food treats Grin

I agree with the others about not going overboard but a few padder gifts are the norm here too.
Most used tend to be..
Bedding, new cushion/blanket
Dressing gown and slippers
Pyjamas
Hamper of favourite treats
Football /Basketball
Sports bag / water bottle
Hoodie
Bath treats
Bath toy

Lonelymum21 · 27/10/2021 20:54

The Works do brilliant little craft kits that are always 2 for a tenner. I buy stuff that can be made then immediately used like bath bomb, lip balm, and pebble painting kits. No need to store more crap!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 27/10/2021 20:55

Oodie style blankets (there are lots on the market now, not just the expensive original version)

MMAMPWGHAP · 27/10/2021 20:58

Selection of Popcorn & Crisps

happytoday73 · 27/10/2021 20:59

Agree with previous posters.. I buy things they will need in the year... Shinpads, water bottles, football socks, bubble bath, slippers, dressing gown, pj's, underwear, books, swimming trunks, personalised bag for football boots or swimming kit, stationary ... Something for bedroom...poster

CommanderBurnham · 27/10/2021 21:07

Mine get a new set of pyjamas every year.

Do they need a new blanket?

I also do family gifts for us. Last year I got a box and put a velvetiser with hot chocolate, sprinkles marshmallows etc. We all still enjoy that. This year I'll do a cinema box with cinema tickets for all of us, popcorn, etc and go to the movies one day in the holidays.

nancybotwinbloom · 27/10/2021 21:19

Oodie copies on Amazon or groupon. I have just bought the groupon ones for my nieces. Lovely, all fleece lined

Crackery · 27/10/2021 21:28

For dd4 what about one of those pop up tent and tunnel sets. About£15. Ours have been okayed with for years.

Like the spacehopper idea. One year we did hula hoops £2 but big! And other year we did snow scooters which were a tenner but looked impressive
