Chocolate board ideas

I’m hosting some friends and family on Christmas Day night but only for dessert.

I think I’ll do a big cheese board with port, grapes, figs etc and then I though I’d do a chocolate board. Basically everything out, people can help themselves rather than desserts with cream, custard or ice cream.

For the chocolate, there will be lindt balls. I have also got a tin of chocolate popcorn, pretzels and nuts from Marks and Spencer. Any other ideas?

The pine cones are lovely, we had them last year

I’d want cake, a massive piece of chocolate cake or an extremely chocolatey Yule log.

CottonSock · 26/10/2021 19:31

You sound like my family. A bit of cheese and magnums / snickers ice cream and everyone happy.

Jumpingintochristmas · 26/10/2021 19:55

We put out the hotel chocolate Christmas luxe box with a cheeseboard on Christmas night… hours after dessert Xmas Blush. We also put out Christmas cake, mince pies and ule log.

Sounds amazing. Could you combine chocolate board with chocolate fondue and add marshmallows, strawberries (on skewers) and matchmakers for dipping? That could be your centrepiece and then all the other stuff around it. Maybe some macarons and miniature mousses to make it more dessert-like, but avoiding the 'big' dessert??

Can I come?! 😁

Personally I love the idea of the chocolate board, I'm not a massive dessert eater and would prefer to pick at bits after a big meal. I think I'll do make one sometime in December x

Yep and I’d add in a couple of bags of monster munch and my lot have died and gone to heaven!

Some lovely ideas. Thank you.

Will be about 7 ish on Christmas Day. I’m in Perthshire, Scotland. The more the merrier!

Ooft that's just up the road! Thank you for invite' 😂 you could also have wee tubs of sprinkles, marshmallows, mini flakes, mini meringues etc as toppings and put out with ice cream and the wee flat bottomed cones as an ice cream factory (include popcorn) to please the kids!

Hotel chocolate do a chocolate dipping set

Fallagain · 27/10/2021 07:55

@HHSchultz

I love dessert, that wouldn't cut it for me!
Me neither.

That sounds like nibbles.

AlwaysLatte · 27/10/2021 08:00

I'd make enough small individual good quality chocolate desserts for everyone with a luxury fruit/nut/cheeseboard as well. This is a delicious recipe

This sounds a fabulous idea I might pinch this one

I guess it depends how much the guests like pudding as to whether to add Brownies, chocolate coated strawberries 🍓 etc but I'd be happy with just chocolates

MissMinestrone · 27/10/2021 08:47

Be careful with the chocolate dipping and fondu ideas, super way to spread you know what.

I love the idea of mini deserts and small cut pieces of baked cakes.

SilenceOfThePrams · 27/10/2021 08:47

I’d do mini cheesecakes with an Oreo crust, in little cupcake wrappers. And little squares of chocolate brownie covered in a dollop of chocolate mousse. Tiny chocolate mince pies. Little baby cappuccino cakes.

But if the people coming have specifically asked for little nibbly treats then what you’re doing sounds perfect! Yule log always nice though.

Viviennemary · 27/10/2021 08:51

How about a chocolate fountain. Kids love them.

That’s one of my favourite Christmas recipes AlwaysLatte it’s ridiculously easy to put together Boxing Day morning and looks a lot more impressive than the effort involved.
DiamondBright · 27/10/2021 09:08

I would definitely have at least a chocolate Yule log and some cream on hand in case someone does want a proper dessert.

AlwaysLatte · 27/10/2021 18:14

@Cuck00soup isn't it?? It's one of my go-tos as it's easy and always goes down well. I use champagne saucers and put them all on a tray in the fridge ahead of time.

SpinachIsAGatewayDrug · 27/10/2021 18:23

I have done a 'make your own truffles' board before.

Making the ganache for the truffles ahead of time and putting it in bowls. Plenty of teaspooipns and cocktail sticks to scoop a ball of ganache and stick it. Then loads of different toppings to dip/roll your truffle in. Nuts, caramel, toffee fragments, dried raspberry bits, chocolate shavings, baileys, desicated coconut, hundreds and thousands, etc.

You could have different flavoured ganache if you really wanted to go to town. e.g. white chocolate, rum, orange etc.

DockOTheBay · 27/10/2021 18:25

Chocolaye fondue or fountain?

Legoisawesome · 27/10/2021 19:02

We often do a gingerbread house as a Christmas dessert if the kids have friends round. Kids slowly pinch the sweets and adults tend to like the gingerbread itself.
