Second hand presents

Hi

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on how to package second hand Santa gifts? I’m seeing loads of barely used toys on fb but I don’t know how to package them if they’re from Santa? Gift boxes? Just wrap unboxed?

I'd wrap unboxed if you don't have any suitable boxes.

We have never wrapped Santa gifts. We usually make up bigger items - kids dressing table or kitchen for example - so that they are ready to play with straight away. You'd get away with that with 2nd hand gifts and save time and effort wrapping.

Wrap them up. It won't be noticed at all.
I have nearly new toys here I'm going to sell on marketplace soon. In so glad they will get another home as they were expensive in the first place.

We put all the Santa stuff in reusable burlap bags from Poundland, so its not a problem that they are unboxed.

Its a no-brainer to buy second hand for finances and the environment. Just picked up a huge box of knex from FB Marketplace for £10 yesterday.

Wrap unboxed, tie a ribbon round, put inside a scrunch of pretty tissue paper.

I'm extremely proud that my kids love second hand, my older DD buys second hand for herself and others. We haven't so far been brave enough to gift 2nd hand outside the family though but in immediate family we love a bargain!

If it works better in a box, can you reuse something like an Amazon box and then wrap that? I keep all my delivery boxes this time of year so I have that sort of option. Also makes for good fun with older kids where you can do a pass the parcel style unwrapping for a small present. The year dd got a secondhand phone we did that and she loved the unwrapping of boxes as much as the actual gift (she was 10).

Just wrap unboxed or put in a sack. not wrestling toys out of their packaging is a massive benefit of buying second hand. Industrial strengh pliers and a screwdriver anyone?

SpookyPumpkinPants · 24/10/2021 20:17

Rather depends what it is? Job lot if happy land or a trampoline!!

Loveitloveitloveit · 24/10/2021 20:19

Great thanks- loving the burlap sack idea. Feeling a bit stingy but finances aren’t great this year, and I know I’ve sold some immaculate toys online before so it shouldn’t be an issue

Are they even old enough to notice? If they are, then "Santa decided to cut down on packaging this year".

Loveitloveitloveit · 24/10/2021 20:28

One of them is definitely old enough. I think this may be our last Santa year. One is autistic so will likely query where the boxes are- I like Santa being environmentally friendly though

Just stick a bow on it. Or some tinsel. Most kids just see the packaging as an annoying nuisance to be ripped off as fast as possible Grin

PoshWatchShitShoes · 24/10/2021 20:46

I unbox some of their bigger toys and make them up on Christmas Eve and stick a big bow on them. Mainly because they want to play with stuff straight away and I don't want to spend Christmas morning trying to unpack plastic stuff and construct 😂

No reason you couldn't do that with pre-loved too

CatOfTheLand · 24/10/2021 20:55

We're setting up a lot of the toys so that they're instantly playable. Others we're putting in reusable Poundland boxes or wrapping - depending what they are.

In our house we leave out our old toys for Father Christmas to take away and give to children who might like them. We also have Father Christmas gifts and gifts from us, so we'll gift anything obviously secondhand if need be.
