Has anyone got any tips for a segway / hoverboard for a 12 tear old? Are they a one hit wonder? At a minimum of £165 I am wondering if they are worth it?

They aren't legal on pavement or public spaces. I didn't bother buying one after I found that out, no point having one!

The illegal ones you mean? Or do you have masses of private land?

I know quite a few boys with these. They do seem to like them but I can’t imagine they get a huge amount of use. You would need large concrete area in garden or drive to quiet playground

Really?! Thank you for that, that really helps to make the decision then!

I have seen kids on our local playing field wit them with the go kart attachment. I do find them unnerving though, I keep thinking they will bash into my ankles

I've seen lots of kids use them at holiday parks. I'm not sure there are many other situations when you could use them unless you have an enormous garden. They do look good fun though.

Apparently most of them don't hover at all!
They've got wheels on.
If you do buy one and it doesn't hover contact your local Trading Standards Office.

Grin I do think Back to the Future set the bar impossibly high. I'm also waiting for 3d holograms to beam out of the cinema.

We got ds then 7 one for Christmas last year. We were advised to make sure its a proper chargeable battery as some of the cheaper ones the batteries wont last. He only really uses it in the house or out side in our cul de sac. He and dd sit on it and basically do donuts on itGrin cue squeals of laughter.

stopblowingyournose · 23/10/2021 20:23

The dds want them because you can hire them at the park we have a caravan on. I didn't know they were illegal on the pavement - that explains why I haven't seen them at home in ages!

Could you use one in grassy areas of woodland? and would they go over gravel paths?
