Garlands

I have 3 banisters I'd like to decorate with garlands - my much loved ones are falling apart so the time has come to replace them 😢
Does anyone have any recommendations of anything they've seen? I don't want to spend a fortune as I need 3 but at the same time, I guess we've had 20 years out of the last ones so maybe I should splash the cash?!

Poundstretchers do pretty decent budget Christmas decorations Or tkmaxx if you want to be a bit "fancier "

I buy plain cheap undecorated ones then buy different pine picks and artificial berries cheaply online. Dry orange slices, whole limes and satsumas and preserve some autumn leaves in glycerin and add cheap ribbon to decorate along with fairy lights. I also collect fir cones year round, dry and paint them and attach with hot glue gun. I’ll try and find a picture from last year. This is a wreath I’ve just finished for my porch which shows some painted pine cones and dried orange slices.

Although I do like a garden centre at Christmas their decorations are usually lovely 🌲

The Range had nice ones in too if you don’t want to decorate your own.

I have no recommendations but I suggest you decorate the bottom of the banister rather than the top as then the bannister is still usable and it looks gorgeous!

That's lovely maofteens. I was just thinking I would do the same rather than hang from the top as usual, then realised the cat might find the low ones too easy to ruin.

Yes that's how we've been doing it! Yours looks lush!

I will look through these suggestions thanks! I am the least crafty person you could ever meet so whilst I love what other people can make, my own efforts fall short!
My much loved ones were a garden centre purchase so maybe I need a trek to one - though we are a Covid positive household right now so it will have to wait

I was going to suggest Balsam Hill until I looked on their website, the wreaths, trees and garlands are realistically beautiful but oh so expensive.😲☹️

I put mind underneath the top rail (secured by clear cable ties then just hide them in the foliage)
My cats would have them on the lower rail Xmas Shock

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 23/10/2021 20:46

Ooh, I have triple bannister envy! We have no stairs and I have nowhere to hang the massive garland that used to go on the bannisters.

BiddyPop · 23/10/2021 21:11

I also put mine under the top rail, using the versions of command strips which are for gathering a bundle of computer cables, and cable ties.

I think I got the garlands in M&S, and having watch Robeson design YouTube tutorials (I think she changed name in the past 2 years), added lots of extra "picks" (foliage bits), lights and some baubles.

So theoretically a lot less than the Balsam Hill types, but not necessarily that much - but I can change the feel of it every year as most of it is removable.

Underthestairsbears · 23/10/2021 22:04

I made one for my stairs with a cheap plain Garland from eBay, some twinkly lights and some baubles and bits I wasn't using. It actually looks really nice and I attach it just below the top handrail.

Thinking of treating myself to a beautiful one from Homesense for the fireplace though.

@CottageOnTheHill
That's a stunning wreathe!
