feel guilty about our homemade presents

ok knock some sense into me please!

Postie has just delivered a huge parcel from my DH's brother and his family. It's got individual presents for each of us (me, DH, 2DDs) all beautifully wrapped and probably very lovely. BIL and his family and v well off compared to us and tend to be very generous in the gift dept.

Well now I'm having a huge crisis of confidence about our 'homemade pressies for all the family' policy this year. DH has a large family tons of nephews and nieces so we decided to make homemade choccies / biccies for all. But are we just going to look like a real bunch of skinflints???

We are not impoverished but we aren't rolling in it either (currently £44 in the bank - I just checked)

so shall I plough on with the baking or do I have to drag my big butt to John Lewis and use my credit card for the first time in 3 years?

bless you all - well its a done deal as I just popped out and bought all the ingredients.

PrincessSnowLife I am happy to share the biccie recipie. It came from a newspaper but it's absolutely brilliant. Already made one 'test' batch and they were fab. Just look at this.

Right better get my sleeves rolled up now... it's going to look like Willy Wonka's in here soon.....

I think homemade gifts are wonderful!!!! Nobody will think you a skin flint. My dh and I are a bit better off and like to buy nice gifts but we don't expect the same in return. I would be horrified if they spent more than they could. And they don't. Last year my SIL gave me a loaf of cranberry soda bread and a cross stich she had done herself. I loved both of them

chocolatespiders · 10/12/2007 16:51

my friend made me mince pies last year she put them on a lovely snowman plate from tkmax dusted them with icing sugar and tied a bow around them, i loved them and i have asked for the same again!!!! she is not poor but shes knows i dont want presents as i have no room for stuff!!!! in my tiny but lovely house!!!!

I would be horrified if I thought someone was getting into debt to get me a present - dammit NO! Biscuits are lovely. Only weirdies don't like biscuits, and you can't account for the weirdies or you'll never get anything done.

have not read all the thread so i may repeat what others have said but i think its lovely that you are putting so much effort in to chritmas rather than getting yourself into debt.

a cheap idea i was given for lovely christmas presents is to buy the a4 size ready printed callanders (sp??) and stick a photo of the dc on top to hand out to relatives (there is usally a space left at the top the perfect size for a picture) my dd2's nursery has done these this year and they look really lovely, i have bought a load to send to far flung relatives who dont see the children very much.
