Gifts that keep on giving, suggestions?

Technically this is a birthday gift, but it's a Christmas birthday so perhaps you'll forgive me. My oldest friend has been absolutely wonderful over the last couple of years. She's always been a good friend but I value her especially after the support she's given me. For the first time i actually have my own income, not a huge amount, but enough to buy her a nice present and I need suggestions. Ideally I'd like to get a subscription type gift, because I just think it would be lovely for her to have a frequent reminder of how much I cherish her. Budget is probably around 50 but I could stretch it if necessary. I was thinking chocolates, but am open to other ideas.

She's vegetarian, but drinks alcohol and coffee, her girlfriend buys her jewellery so that's off the table. She's an author so stationary might be an option? She lives in London but lives going into the countryside and going for long walks.

Otherwise just tell me the best chocolate subscriptions please!

Hunter wellies if she loves walks in the countryside

CatherineCawood · 20/10/2021 20:25

I've bought a few people magazine subscriptions previously that have been very well received.

Iveputmyselfonthenaughtystep · 20/10/2021 20:25

She has them already Grin they're staples for her. I think she has more than one pair even!

Does she like going to the theatre? What about an ATG card? They are £35 a year if you pay by dd, you can buy a gift version which is slightly more. It gives priority for tickets and discounts etc and these can really add up if they go a lot.

Iveputmyselfonthenaughtystep · 20/10/2021 20:32

She does. For fun and for work. I might have to find out if she has one already, as she may well do... Good shout though.

Lovely rose from David Austin or a plant

Iveputmyselfonthenaughtystep · 20/10/2021 22:19

Rose is not a bad shout..I've actually bought one for my mum!

Oh that's a no then 😊

What about a lovely picnic set
Or those hiking sticks I see people use
An engraved chopping board
Or any engraved items - glass , cup etc
Or an ornament that she can put outside that you brush off the mud from your shoes off you know like a welcome mat but in the shape of an animal or something
A bird feeeder

Cashmere bed socks or scarf
Digital photo frame

I'm not sure how much it costs but a subscription to country walking magazine? Failing that maybe find a walking book with routes that are within easy reach of london?

ivykaty44 · 21/10/2021 06:00

National trust membership

Bread making experience

rushedruined · 21/10/2021 06:42

Are you friends with her girlfriend and could you ask her for tips?

Anonymice1 · 21/10/2021 16:38

Glossybox or Lookfantastic beauty box subscription?

secretbookcase · 21/10/2021 16:54

I agree about a rose. Every time she sees it flower, it will remind her of you. Nicer than chocolate imo.
Careful with cashmere as suggested above. Lovely idea but ethically inclined vegetarians won't wear cashmere as is it often collected with no regard for animal welfare. Same with anything made of silk.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/10/2021 20:24

I think a decent subscription would be quite a lot more £££.

A houseplant in a lovely pot

I like the idea of a nice picnic set

A cashmere scarf or cashmere wristwarmers

A salt lamp

A dried flower wreath - these are having a bit of a 'moment' and should look nice on a wall for quite a long time if you avoid anything too specifically seasonal

A small print by a local artist

Papier do beautiful notebooks that you can personalise

Maybe some Bloompost letterbox gifts, like one every week for a month..you can pick which dates you want them delivered. I’ve ordered a few, the packaging is lovely!

Simple things magazine subscription. It’s just a lovely read and so different from your usual magazine.

HelplessAndLost · 22/10/2021 21:19

Love Cocoa do good chocolate subscriptions. I’ve bought them for a couple of friends, you can do 3 months, 6 months or ongoing I think.

NotEnoughTime · 22/10/2021 21:24

Bit off field but how about:

I've bought these before 'in loo' of a present and they have gone down well but obviously I don't know your friend so maybe it's not something that she would appreciate.

I've done this for a few people over the years and it's always been a really popular gift.

How about a Bloom and Wild subscription for monthly flowers? I had some from a friend and they're lovely!
