Looking for suggestions of Christmas craft type activities to do at home with a friend, can’t go to the usual “make your own wreath” type classes due to covid risk. Thinking of things like Christmas wreath, glass decorations etc. Hit me with your best ideas before I go crazy finding things on Etsy!

Dried orange slices on twine with cinnamon sticks. Makes a nice garland and really easy to do. Lots of versions on Pinterest.

Cranberry garland for the Christmas tree. There are pro-tips online about how to make fresh berries last.

Popcorn garland if you have the patience.

If she's interested in embroidery or crochet, a wee kit with a holiday themed cross stitch or crochet project might be fun. I'm a complete beginner, but I've always wanted to learn, so would be happy if I had the right kit to hand.

Sugar cookie cutouts with the artistic looking sugar icing.

FeelinSpendy · 20/10/2021 19:20

Candle making? Easy to find kits online. Or card-making.

Also, there’s still a lot of online classes where they send you the kit beforehand and then hold the class live online. Maybe try the Obby website. The in-person classes are mainly London-based but there are online live classes and recorded tutorials as well.

Needle felting! It's so therapeutic stabbing.

I keep looking at this wooden star kit

FeltCarrot · 20/10/2021 19:31

Last Christmas I cross stitched “Merry Christmas” and used the hoop as frames to give to friends instead of cards. This year I’m going to make Christmas cross stitch people ornaments.

LoveFall · 20/10/2021 19:45

I have been entertaining myself painting wooden ornaments. There are many different ones on Amazon.

I have now ordered the wood slices type.

I am making them with each grandchild's name.

I also discovered that Mod Podge has a version of its sealer that has sparkles in it. I use acrylic paint and seal it with the sparkly stuff for quite a nice effect.

I have a good sized collection of Christmas stamps and I use Versamark and a white embossing powder to stamp the outline on the wood so I can paint it in.

It could be quite a nice group project.

If you're looking for an online class I can highly recommend this calligraphy class with Alina www.creativefeeldesigns.com/workshops?category=WORKSHOPS She has various christmas ones coming up.

That star kit is lovely - what a great site Thanks

Ricekrispie22 · 21/10/2021 05:00

My friend and I are making stollen together this year

FearlessSwiftie · 21/10/2021 11:16

Card making or candle/soap making, could also be something more Xmas related, like making christmas collages (there is an app for just that or you can do it using some old magazines) or a gift wrapping challenge. Or working on a paint by numbers kit- www.amazon.co.uk/paint-numbers-christmas/s?k=paint+by+numbers+christmas&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

WorriedMillie · 21/10/2021 11:20

Hobbycraft have some cute little kits at the moment
My favourite kits, however are from Artcuts, I think you can get certain kits from John Lewis, but there are more options on their website. I now buy the wooden shapes/stamps/ink pads separately 😍

Genderwitched · 21/10/2021 14:55

A craft kit will be perfect for my elderly Mum, such a good idea, I'm so grateful for all the tips on this board.

HauntedDishcloth · 21/10/2021 15:23

Have a look at these ribbon wreath kits They're ridiculously easy if you can tie a knot!

pippapoo62 · 21/10/2021 20:29

Candle / Soap making kits available on Amazon and Ebay.

Purpletomato · 21/10/2021 20:33

I'm tempted by this. A bit pricey for me but DD has always loved robins.

I would highly recommend needle felting, there are some great kits about and It can be as easy or hard as you want it to be.

Lovemusic33 · 29/10/2021 15:32

Or Pyrography? You can buy wood slices and make tree decorations and/or coasters?

Bapple · 31/10/2021 10:35

I have an independent craft shop and we find that needle felt kits are really popular for friends wanting to get together for Christmas crafting. Also popular are make your own cracker kits, ceramic tea light figure decorating and crepe paper flower kits.

languagelover96 · 31/10/2021 10:43

This is a website covering all of the UK, have a look- www.craftcourses.com/craft-workshops

Or you can see if you can hire a tutor etc.

NameChangeADHD · 31/10/2021 10:46

Some great ideas here!
I was going to suggest hobby craft as they have a few kits

Cyw2018 · 31/10/2021 10:50

Dried fruit decorations and garlands. Hobbycraft sell nice willow wreaths to use as a base.

Collect pine cones and make into baubles, spray with a little spray snow

I changed my decoration colour scheme last year and used a can of plasticote copper colour spray paint to upgrade some of the old decorations.

ODFOgrinch · 31/10/2021 10:51

Hobby craft has online craft lessons and will send out the kit. I know they do wreaths, not sure what else.

WisestIsShe · 31/10/2021 11:00

Someone on the Christmas poncing thread recommended Corinne Lapierre last year. They are easy but lovely felt crafts, tree decorations etc. So relaxing
