Ideas for 16yo dd

DD can never tell me what she would like. I think the reality is that she earns quite well through her PT job and buys most of the stuff that she wants.

I'm so stuck for ideas. She has her own very distinct style so I would find it quite hard to buy her clothes or jewellery - I could take a guess but she would be too polite to tell me if she didn't like it. Don't really want to do vouchers as she will get those from other relatives. She is very particular about what products she uses on her skin and hair.

Don't think she really needs any tech. She has a decent phone, earpods, an Alexa etc. She isn't into gaming or anything like that. She has hobbies but doesn't really need anything for them. She doesn't really want anything else for her room as it's all exactly as she wants it. Confused

I'm totally out of ideas! Any suggestions?

I could have written this! My 17yr old also has a part time job and buys herself whatever she needs. It's a tricky one.
I think this year I'm going to go with some nice shelves for her room, pjs, some books, stationary, chocolate and Primark vouchers. I'll also fill a stocking with bits and bobs, not much for her to unwrap but I don't think she's too bothered really.

Revolution makeup
Vouchers for spa kinda day?
Cinema vouchers
Snack hamper
Socks. Everyone loves socks.

GoWalkabout · 17/10/2021 18:05

I am going to scale it back this year because mine are both rich now too. I am going to go for an edible, a book, an item of clothing they choose and something else they want. I might chuck in some reuseable environmental things (makeup pads etc)

It's so hard, isn't it @byronsbrain?!

PJs are a good idea. And books/stationery. I was wondering about perfume but both of us have lost our sense of smell through covid and not sure if we'll get it back by Christmas!Confused

Tickets for a gig?

AlexaShutUp · 17/10/2021 18:09

@Cherryrainbow

Revolution makeup Vouchers for spa kinda day? Cinema vouchers Snack hamper Socks. Everyone loves socks.
Spa day vouchers would probably be well received, actually! And cinema vouchers.

She has never been very interested in food unlike her mother.

Socks would be a good shout.

Reusable environmental things would probably go down well.

Wouldn't know what to get. Her music taste is quite eclectic....

Aw no, might be worth sticking to perfume that's tried and tested if sense of smell isn't great. If you want a recommendation the new mugler goddess perfume is lush and becoming popular, very nice subtle vanilla-y cake lightly floral kinda scent x

I’m the same I don’t want to give money but it’s hard to think of things to unwrap especially when I hate buying for the sake of buying it’s a waste. I’m thinking make up brush cleaner silk pillow case books a nice make up set pjs Pandora earings…think that’s itConfused and my teenage son I have no idea at all I’m hoping his dad can think of a few

AlexaShutUp · 17/10/2021 18:19

My dd loves her silk pillowcases, @Youneverknowwhatyourgonnaget. We bought them for her last Christmas.

Earrings might be a good idea.

When I get an idea I keep writing it in my notes. Things that can be used and gone are good like bath bombs maybe wax melts?

AlexaShutUp · 17/10/2021 18:28

She has a lot of wax melts that I gave her last year. Bath bombs might go down well.

She likes crystals but has lots of them already. Not sure if there are any crystal accessories I could get?Confused

She likes nail polish too. Not sure if there is a nice "fancy" brand that I could get her?

I would maybe go experiences, cinema ticket (I think you can get year ones as well) gig tickets, beauty treatment, trip somewhere for a weekend etc

Crackery · 17/10/2021 18:38

@AlexaShutUp if she likes nail polish what about a gel nail kit with the led lamp etc?

AlexaShutUp · 17/10/2021 18:41

Thanks. Experiences are a good idea, I think. Will give that some thought.

Unfortunately the year long cinema tickets simply aren't worth it where we live, as ticket prices are pretty low and it would be hard to get full use out of them. She loves the theatre though, so maybe some theatre tickets would go down well.

Ah, that's an interesting suggestion, might go down very well. I know nothing about gel nails, will have to do some research....

cosmiccrystals.co.uk/products/love-necklace?variant=31768774869103

These necklaces with a chosen crystal are very popular and look nice

Etsy has loads of jewellery made using crystal, definitely worth a google.

AlexaShutUp · 17/10/2021 18:45

Thank you, I will have a look at etsy jewellery.

What about more of a keepsake piece of jewellery than a fashion piece. A classic gold or single bangle or a bracelet with identity tag? Or a locket? My mum bought me one for my 14th birthday. Tbh I didnt love it at the time but still wear it now at 42 yrs!

GoWalkabout · 17/10/2021 19:02

We got a lovely mini St Christopher's necklace with an engraved box from Etsy.

AlexaShutUp · 17/10/2021 19:07

Thank you, I like the idea of a special piece of jewellery with a special box.

What about a provisional licence and some off road lessons in preparation for when she turns 17?
