Board games suitable for a 3 year old and a 6 year old

Don't know if I'm asking the impossible here but can anyone suggest any board games that my almost 3 and 6 year old boys might both enjoy and be able to play together? My 6 year old feels a bit grown up for the orchard toys type games now but my nearly 3 year old is still a bit young for anything too long or complex. All suggestions welcome! Thank you.

Junior Monopoly. Comes in various themes.
Snakes and Ladders
Ludo

WellTidy · 12/10/2021 11:52

Card game - snap

Frustration

Connect four

The basic dobble - 6yo may need to be patient with the 3yo!

Guess who - maybe?

WellTidy · 12/10/2021 11:53

Not board games, but pop up pirate and elefun

alloverthecarpetagain · 12/10/2021 11:57

The falling monkeys game, pop up pirate and Scaredy Cat. Non of them board games, I know. Also Uno Extreme but played with cards on the table not hidden. Snakes and Ladders, of course.

Thanks everyone. Yes, all game ideas welcome not just board games. Lots of ideas already that I'll look into, keep them coming!

Kerplunk

WellTidy · 12/10/2021 12:14

Kerplunk is a great call. We have a cheap version of that called Tumbling Moneys or something like that.

Runaway1 · 12/10/2021 12:32

outfoxed might work, go fish, funny bunny

SometimesMaybe · 12/10/2021 12:42

Uno
Connect 4
Old Maid (scabby queen)

I know you said no orchard toys but my 7 year old still likes “build a beetle” which is a small stoking type filler and good fun.

cornflakegirl · 12/10/2021 13:23

Dobble is great because you don't need to hold a gand of cards.

Rat a tat cat was loved by our and visiting kids for a wide age range - we did house rules for the littlies to simplify.

Zombie dice - about deciding when to stick, so you can help smaller ones to make that decision

Simple top trumps style games - we had a dinosaur one with no words, just numbers in 4 corners - someone can help the little one until they can do numbers. (Top trumps are so dull! But ours adored them.)

desperatehousewife2 · 12/10/2021 13:24

My 3 year old and 6 year old both love Hungry Hippos

cornflakegirl · 12/10/2021 13:24

Oh, and Lego Shave a Sheep.

BlueChampagne · 12/10/2021 13:44

Jenga
Story Cubes
The Merry Game of Floundering
Pelmanism (we had an Octonauts set years ago)

adaptiveness · 12/10/2021 13:52

For actual board games:

Dobble
Race to the Treasure
My First Orchard
Ticket to Ride Junior
Hoot Owl Hoot

EcoCustard · 12/10/2021 13:54

Kerplunk is a winner with my 4 Dc from 6-2.

Jenga
Hungry Hippos
Ludo (although ds6 gets grumpy when he loses)
Snakes & Ladders
Dominoes

Aug12 · 12/10/2021 14:04

Snakes and ladders, Snap, Buckaroo, pop up pirate, uno junior, jenga, candy land?

CoodleMoodle · 12/10/2021 14:06

I have a 3 and 7 year old. We have loads of Orchard Toys games which DS is getting the hang of.

DD says she plays them with him/us because she wants to entertain her little brother... but I think she still enjoys playing them! Favourites include Bug Bingo, Lunchbox, Shopping List, Pizza Pizza, Rocket Ship and Tummy Ache. We also have some more advanced ones (Magic Maths, Bus Stop, a Cafe one, Times Tables Heroes, What a Performance) that are too much for DS atm but he should grow into eventually!

And a pack of picture cards for playing snap, matching, old maid, etc. We have Peppa Pig ones and Frozen ones.

lavenderlemon · 12/10/2021 14:20

I saw it first!
My 4 (nearly 5) yo absolutely loves it! But so do the adults 😁

BikeRunSki · 12/10/2021 14:28

Mine still played some Orchard games past 6…,Shopping List (and extension pack) and Tummy Ache were favourites.

Teafirst · 12/10/2021 14:38

Pop up pirate is our go to here. Both like it a lot

Stompythedinosaur · 12/10/2021 14:43

Dobble is good for dc at different ages as you can give the older dc more cards to match than the younger one.

ODFOgrinch · 12/10/2021 14:57

Set. It's recommended for older but we found that as a preschooler DD regularly won at this before she was taught about numbers and how to group things. She could just see commonalities that we didn't because of the way we were looking.
We still play it now and she's 17!

nickievans1987 · 12/10/2021 15:52

Wow, loads of ideas! Thank you all, I'll have a good look through your suggestions.

Tumbling Monkeys is what I was trying to think of! Far superior to Kerplunk in my opinion as it lasts longer and if you score points for each monkey you end up with it's very competitive but also has a lot of luck involved.

Gamewright card games. They do loads, and they are all really lovely. Things like Hiss, Chomp or Slamwich would be good for that age.
