Ds 14 is asking for one. Anyone got their dc one? Is it any good? Worth the money? Do I need to pay big bucks for extra storage or is the 128gb enough? Any advice welcome!

We bought one for DS in February for his birthday. I'd say it is played with most days. It's pretty impressive and obviously all the different games can become an automatic source of gifts for birthdays and Christmases to come. He loves Job Simulator, Beat Saber, Vacation Simulator and Rec Room. In fact we're getting our other son one for their December birthday as they can meet up virtually apparently and play games together.

We got the lower storage one and so far no issues at all. Will get the improved one for DS2 as it costs the same.

You need a Facebook account to set it up.

Thank you that's very helpful.

I got one as a family present last Christmas and it gets played with regularly by my 9 and 6 year old. We have the smaller storage option, which has been fine. You can return most games if you decide after a short play they are not for you.

Not sure about kids by my husband loves it! 😂

Sugarcube84 · 11/10/2021 12:50

My ds11 saved for a year to buy one for himself, he’s now saving for a gaming PC so he can stream more games so I’d say it’s been a good buy. He did break the tv in the first day though.

Best gift I've ever been given. Not found the need for extra storage. I will say though, watch out for the social games like Rec Room and VR Chat as the language can be foul and they can be speaking to anyone. My son is only 8 though so I have to be a little stricter when he borrows it than with a teenager I imagine! So many great games though like Beat Saber and Population One. You'll probably enjoy a wee shot yourself, I recommend the app Wander, it's like Google street view but in VR.

I rave about VR because the technology is another level. It would be a really awesome present for a teenager. Christmas day would be so fun with it!

Ooh I'm really excited to read your replies, can't wait to get it now!

You'll get one for yourself after you've tried out his Grin

Don’t want to piss on anyone’s chips, I have an oculus quest myself but...

I’ve read plenty of stuff that says they’re not suitable for young kids (although 14 should be ok, op)

I think it’s to do with the eye spacing of the headsets- they’re designed for adult sized heads. They can caused eye strain in younger kids due to the eyes being closer, and potentially could cause serious problems if used for longer periods of time.

Google age suitability for vr and you’ll see what I mean.

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 11/10/2021 13:47

We already have a PlayStation VR, does anyone know if we get an Oculus quest if they would be able to join in each other’s games?

Vallmo47 · 11/10/2021 13:49

We love ours but my SIL was sold having tried it once at ours, she decided to splurge and it was very much a novelty thing at hers. Everyone wanted one go but then … it died down.
Having said that, it does come out regularly at ours and there are fun family games you can play. One person on oculus obviously, the rest on apps on their tablets. We have good times still 2 years later.

SallyDoTheDishes · 11/10/2021 13:53

The best thing about VR is when the kids go to school or bed and you get to go on it. Grin

My two sons got one each a couple of years ago, still play it now. I absolutely love Beat Sabre and Dh had seriously wobbly legs exploring the International Space Station. It feels very real, all of it. I have even done fishing on there, a nice chill after Beat Sabre. The children (teens) played the Darth Vadar stuff but in all honesty it scared the shit out of me. Having him breathing close to you is quite terrifying.

Even when you just start it up and you are in a lodge, we currently have the ski lodge and you can see the cable cars out the windows. I love it.

SallyDoTheDishes · 11/10/2021 13:54

I forgot "Keep talking and nobody explodes" a great team work game figuring out the bomb.

ProfYaffle · 11/10/2021 13:55

My tips would be; get the fancy headstrap, it's much more balanced and comfortable and get a Chromecast because it becomes a group activity if everyone can see what's going on. We play escape room games as a family and Beat Sabre in party mode means you can compete against each other.

Hotelhelp · 12/10/2021 11:11

Ours has been a bit of a novelty tbh!

Might get it out soon. Can anyone recommend good games for a family of 4 with 2 being preteens?

Kyliealwayshadthebestdisco · 13/10/2021 02:29

All I know is that I want one! Grin I think like with phones you can download a game then delete if not using etc so I’d go for cheaper with less storage space personally.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 13/10/2021 14:33

My DC love theirs and I also enjoy playing. I absolutely love job simulator and beat saber.

Kimchi · 14/10/2021 13:03

Games we love:
The Room - excellent puzzle game
All the Star Wars ones
Death unchained
Moss - amazing for kids about 8+
Job simulator - kids like this one

VirtualLife · 14/10/2021 13:09

They're amazing. Got one for ds last Christmas. We have a rift s for pc. I sneak into ds's room and play when he's out. I am an absolute fiend at beat sabre 😂 You'll all have so much fun OP.
