Actually for bday not christmas but will ask here. DS's bday present pile looks a bit small even though it has things he wants. I would really like to have one more present for him that will make the pile look impressive but we've spent as much as we were planning to. Any ideas?

His presents are a teddy he wanted, books he wanted, a hatchimal flyer (this is the big one, just doesn''t look impressive wrapped up), and the toy of the new paw patrol pup.

Cardboard colour in Castle from Hobbycraft. Think they're about 15quid but mine had hours of fun with his is lockdown.

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 08/10/2021 22:50

Agree with the cardboard house/castle etc… we filled out our DDs birthday pile with one of these. I’d just say check quality of the one you buy, we got ours from Aldi, it was a Princess carriage and was very flimsy. I believe hobby craft ones are better.

A giant art set or oversized colouring pads from somewhere like b&m or home bargains, they are usually cheap.

Or put them each in bigger boxes with balloons?
Personally I'd leave it as is so it is not a precedent for future years.

GoldStarAngel · 08/10/2021 22:57

ah yes, but the precedent has been set by sibling bdays etc. I think the thing is nothing is physically big this year - so just want to get something that feels big even if it isn't.

Reconditioned, second hand bike. Go for about £20 at some of our local bike repairers/cycling community projects for a good child’s bike, probably less for one for a 6 year old.

Maybe something he needs like a onesie or dressing gown for winter, it even fluffy character pyjamas make quite a bulky gift but you'd maybe buy anyway?

A giant a3 size colouring book of his favourite character? And a big pack of felt or gel pens.

Or a big foam glider? I keep seeing them raved about on outdoor parenting groups as a great toy to take on walks, I picked one up for Christmas for £2.99 from Home Bargains. They are big to wrap up.

A tent, or wigwam.
Space hopper.

Declutterclogs · 09/10/2021 02:08

How about a big helium filled balloon of a theme/character he likes, wrapped up in a big box (with a string and weight on it so it doesn't accidentally sail out an open door)

HappyTimeTunnelDinosaur · 09/10/2021 07:00

Giant beanbag maybe, or big fluffy fake oodie/ blanket with characters or pics on that he'd like.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 09/10/2021 07:41

Yy to beanbag chair.

PhantomErik · 09/10/2021 09:33

A fake oodie from Amazon, Primark or Dunelm.

A movie night hamper - big tub of popcorn, some sweets, pringles & milkshake etc

Fleece blanket or duvet cover relating to interests.

Rucksack or lunch bag for school etc

Sports/swim kit

Football

Dressing up outfit

Fallagain · 09/10/2021 12:14

I wouldn’t get him something else just to make the pile look bigger as your creating expectations for the future.

GoldStarAngel · 09/10/2021 13:38

Great ideas here thank you. Got inspired by the beanbag and have gone for a lovely cushion to lay on in his room while reading/playing.

Too late but I was going to say a plastic sledge.

Lettingoffstea · 09/10/2021 14:17

Absolutely agree with the cardboard presents from hobby craft, they have a wide selection and a packet of crayons to colour it in. It comes in a huge box

yoshiblue · 09/10/2021 18:58

I've getting my son either a oodie or onesie to add to his presents. Or a fluffy themed blanket - they have ones in B&M, Asda, Primark.
