Present for 6yr old DD

Ideas please?

Her 3yr old sister is so easy to buy for as she's unicorn/mermaid mad. But DD6 is slightly more tomboyish. She loves puzzle/maze games, worst witch, Amelia fang books etc. She asked for a skateboard for her birthday in July.

Help!

@PinkSyCo

* *@PinkSyCo where in my post did I say I was panicking? I have reread and I can't see that part. Did you have any helpful contributions to my post? Thank you.

“Help!” sounds pretty panicky to me. I would suggest that, if you are really that flummoxed about what to buy your own child for Christmas, that you ask her what she would like when it is nearly Christmas. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Why be so miserable? So unhelpful and keyboard warrior like. Get a grip

I found this thread useful for my own six year old. So thank you x

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 08/10/2021 19:36

My dd also loves a game. Some of our favourites are dobble, uno, exploding kittens, no more llamas, catventures, guess who, jenga, payday, game of life/monopoly junior, egged on, top trumps.

I've also got the following on an amazon list of ideas for her (recommendations from similar threads), kerplunk, enchanted forest, labyrinth, rush hour, sleeping queens, outfoxed, junior colour brain, big potato ok play, bop it, sushi go, taco goat cheese, dont upset the llama, beetle drive.

Other ideas that have been a hit in previous years and things we have for this year, nintendo 2ds with games, alexa for her room, dressing up, origami set, adult colouring books and sharpies, scratch art, cuddly toys, fidget toys, proper styling head, accessories for her room, figures (mine liked disney, funko pop minis, dolls, shopkins, busy books). Digital camera. Roll up drum kit. Fleecy blankets. Subscription for a magazine/comic - mine liked phoenix, beano, the week junior. Fingerlings and electronic toys like boppi the llama, hatchimals llama have been popular with my dd (I buy cheap, secondhand or on offer as they are soooo expensive when they first come out!)

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 08/10/2021 19:41

Oh and bugs in the kitchen, pass the pigs, tiddlywinks, snakes and ladders (ive bought a classic games compendium for Christmas and want to get electronic battleships). Card and go seek.

She also loved hungry hippos, pop up pirate and the orchard toys games at that age.

Can you tell we play alot of games 🤣🤣

Dd is asking for a bike for Christmas so that's the easy part. Her 6th birthday is at the beginning of December. Don't have a clue what to get her.

headinthecloudsnow · 08/10/2021 19:52

@nocutsnobuttsnococonuts thanks so much, so many great ideas

@mam0918 get off the Christmas board if you don’t want to read Christmas threads then!

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 09/10/2021 22:11

I’ve got some fake oodies for my 7 & 9yo DDs, I know they will love them. Both love their Harry Potter so lots of that stuff. Someone on another thread posted about a puzzle money box, it looks really good for someone who likes puzzles. I’ve ordered one for my DN & DD.

Last year we got them a metal detector and microscope which they love. My 9yo has also been asking for a telescope for a while too.

mam0918 · 10/10/2021 09:18

@Mrsfussypants1

Isn't this the Christmas board or am I lost? Nothing wrong with getting ideas from other people with children the same age, it's lovely to get some recommendations, of things that might be something you've never thought of and has been a hit. Our almost 6yr old would ask for a pile of tat that would get played with for 5 minutes and abandoned and not have real play value. She does write a list nearer the time but is limited to a handful of items that she MAY get. And yes, Christmas is a few months away yet, nothing wrong with spreading the cost, being organised and this years stock/delivery/price increases issues that are a coming. I personally do not want to be shopping in December, it's such a lovely month, I have better things to do with my time.
Yep as a child the best gifts I ever got where thing I didnt know existed until I opened them... several things I asked for (like a furby) turned out to be faddy crap.

I got the idea to get my DS LED room lights last year and a gaming keyboard this year. I know little about gaming so had to ask my husband if he even needed a special keyboard because I never would have considered it myself without seeing someone else mention it on this forum.

eh?
I post here all the time, love xmas and have already finished 95% xmas shopping.

BeaLola · 10/10/2021 11:15

Sledge - was a big hit when DS was that age and was big but inexpensive - obviously if we fight get snow not so great Confused

SecretGardenn · 10/10/2021 12:29

Lego definitely.
A smaller lego technic set might be good too to start off the lego technic collection, 7+ but some 6 year olds can definitely manage.
Roller skates
Scooter
Bike
Science kit
Usborne activity books for little children are fun.
Enid Blyton mysteries book collection
Selection box
Colouring book

Stuff like Yoyos, modelling dough, hot wheels car, lego polybag etc for stocking. Bulked out with socks, an orange, usual essential stuff

SecretGardenn · 10/10/2021 12:30

Plus a board game! Checkers is something my 6 year old is a little obsessed with at the moment

ChelBelle · 10/10/2021 19:50

My DD IS 6 at the end of November and then we have Christmas. So this has been a good post. Thanks.
We are thinking:
Lego
Human Body x-ray puzzle
Blow pens
Colouring book
Aqua Dragons

Last year we brought Marble Run which was a great hit and someone brought her the game Grabolo which is fun as it's not a long game. But you need to be quick lol.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 11/10/2021 04:02

Mary Anning, fossil hunter, often appeals to girls with quirkier personalities and interests!

What about Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara's engaging, illustrated, book:

combined with a glow-in-the-dark shark tooth excavation kit?!

@RubaiyatOfAnyone,

what a great recommendation your shine-a-torch hidden mythical creatures book was...I can now cross off my list a-usually-impossible-to-buy-for 8 yr old. Grateful thanks!

Montanna15 · 11/10/2021 07:32

@RubaiyatOfAnyone hey where is the mythical creatures book from ? I've had a quick Google but cannot find and I think my son would like one thankyou !

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 11/10/2021 07:43

@Montanna15 I got it from amazon - the final word “book” in my post is a link to it.

I should say for anyone with younger dc that i found it because we were given this book when she was 3 which works in the same way and she LOVED it, and i was googling for older versions of the idea now she had outgrown it.

BingBongToTheMoon · 11/10/2021 07:58

I just ordered that book too, thank you.

Montanna15 · 11/10/2021 08:03

@RubaiyatOfAnyone thank you so much I didnt even see the link! That's what I get for coming on mumsnet the second I open my eyes!

Oysterbabe · 11/10/2021 12:01

We're buying my soon to be 6 year old a camera. I'm still considering which one. I think we're going for more of a proper camera than a kiddizoom but still needs to be durable and easy to use. I'll post it once we decide on one.

foxgoosefinch · 11/10/2021 12:32

Big Lego kit?

Agree with pp that Hilda is great!

DD is nearly 9 but around 6 she loved (and still loves):

Glow in the dark marble run
Lottie dolls (age appropriate dolls, v good!)
Science kits, Galt are good
Make your own bath bomb kits
Binoculars; microscope (a small handheld one is just as good as a bigger one)
Cheap digital camera
Weaving loom (Melissa and Doug do a big one)
One of those little indoor sensor-operated flying drones, about £18 from Amazon - this was a super big hit on Xmas day 2 years ago and they only fly for around 7 minutes before needing recharging 👍

foxgoosefinch · 11/10/2021 12:37

This is the kind of thing re the indoor drones:

www.iztore.co/products/uk-hand-controlled-flying-ufo-mini-drone

But you can pick them up even cheaper on Amazon. They are a bit flimsy and small, but as a novelty they are really fun and DD was absolutely enraptured all Christmas with it! You fly it by chucking it into the air and using your hands to direct the sensors, which are meant to stop it banging into things like your walls. As I said the bonus is that it only flies for a short time and then needs recharging for an hour or so so no one gets sick of it Wink
