Making flavoured vodka as Xmas presents

I’m thinking of making flavoured vodka for a couple of folks as Xmas presents. Have I still got time to do this? And am I headed in right direction with flavourings/method?

Both of them I have ideas for flavours that come from sentimental reasons.

For my best female friend I was thinking white toblerone. Well actually M&S white chocolate Swiss mountain bar. Long story. Anyway, do I just chop up a Swiss mountain bar, stick it in the bottle with the vodka and then run the bottle through the dishwasher a few cycles?

One is for my best male friend. I’d like to make a spiced orange vodka. I was thinking orange peel, plus whole cloves and cinnamon sticks to add flavour. Do I need to add something like brown sugar or raisins too? I was thinking I’d just leave that one to macerate but would I be better sticking it in the dishwasher too?

Any help/advice greatly appreciated. I did a Christmas one with mincemeat years ago but have pretty much forgotten how I did it.

I make flavoured vodka each year. Just googled the recipes. I have done Christmas pudding vodka, candy cane vodka, skittles vodka, toffee vodka and this year it is spicy gingerbread vodka. I started on this years a few days ago so you have plenty of time to make it.

I did the Chrismas pudding one a few years ago. I remember soaking all the bits and then straining them out. I made them into a boozy tea loaf!

I don't know about chocolate based flavours - that might not work too well.

Toblerone vodka should be fine , apparently (I've never tried it though) Mars Bar Vodka woks well , you do need to strain it though , and I guess Toblerone would need it too .

I made Skittles Vodka a few years ago for New Year . I used red in one , Purple in another .
Half a bottle of supermarket own brand vodka divided between two bottle . Drop in as many Skittles as I could Xmas Grin .
They dissolved without the dishwasher but if you do , wrap the bottle in clingfilm (in case it shattters) put it on the top shelf . Might need a couple of cycles .

I strained the Skittles vodka through a coffee filter in a funnel Then decanted into a smaller bottle .
In the fridge it goes syrupy .

I want to make Werthers Vodka bit no-one else wants it and I don't drink alcohol . !

Yes that's the easiest way to make chocolate vodka, we did it every year in the pub I worked in, it works best if the chocolate doesn't have bits in though.

This year DH is making the Hairy Bikers ' Christmas pudding vodka. I'll be making after eight vodka, although I prefer it with Fry's peppermint cream, DH has already bought the after eights. I blitz the chocolate with the vodka and put in a warm place (a radiator) shaking it daily. Preferred saving is mixed with Bailey's and tia Maria

FreezerBird · 11/10/2021 10:31

I've been making my (slightly tweaked) version of the Hairy Bikers' Christmas Pudding vodka for several years and people do seem to love it. They give me the empties back with a hopeful glint in their eyes and make comments about hoping to get them back full again.

I branched out into a couple of other flavours once but they didn't go down so well so I stick to the Christmas Pudding one. Now I make about three batches a year to keep up with demand...

I like the sound of gingerbread vodka though, has anyone got a tried and tested recipe for that?

Definitely recommend worthers original vodka… pour out a cup of vodka, chop up worthers into halves and put into bottle and tighten lid , drink cup of vodka! Wink
Shake vodka bottle every few days. No dishwasher needed, easy peasy.

SpamIAm · 11/10/2021 21:18

I wouldn't bother with the dishwasher but otherwise they sound fine. Agree the chocolate one will likely need straining. You can probably leave that one until much closer to the time, guess the other one will need a few weeks for the spices to infuse though.

Werthers vodka with cream soda 👌

Chasingsquirrels · 11/10/2021 21:27

I've done Werthers and pear drop for DP. He preferred the Werthers so I've done it a few times now.
Never bothered with the dishwasher after the 1st year.

Do you then drink it neat?
